Italy vs Brazil goals and highlights

Italy enter the match on the back of a disappointing defeat to Egypt and they need three points from this match since Egypt are likely to take at least one point against USA. Brazil are already through but we are pretty sure they will take this match very seriously.

Italy suffered a major setback

Italy had high hopes before the start of the tournament as the team have been looking really good under Marcelo Lippi and they were expected to have an easy job to qualify for the semi-final. Azurri struggled in the opening game against USA but managed to take all three points thanks to the convincing second half performance. They then entered the match with Egypt as hot favourites, knowing that even one point from the match would give them good chance to progress to the next stage. Italy dominated the early exchanges but they couldn’t find a way past Egypt’s packed defence and were soon punished. The Pharaohs took the lead just few minutes before the break, which allowed them to sit back and defend. Marcelo Lippi introduced Toni and Montolivo in the second period and that change had a positive effect since Azzuri created several very good chances. However, they failed to take any of them and ended up losing the game. They are now tied on points with Egypt and need to record better result than Pharaohs in the last round. That is not going to be an easy job since Italy will play Brazil but they have no choice but to attack from the off. Lippi will field attacking 4-3-3 formation and we believe that Italy should be able to score past not so great Brazil defence.

Brazil are through to the semis

Brazil are already through to the semi-finals and judging by the first two rounds, they look like the most likely candidate to win the Confederations Cup. Carlos Dunga has a very good team on his disposal and the changes he make to the starting line-up do not affect the performances. Selecao had some problems in the opening game against Egypt but they never panicked and managed to get all three points. They had even easier job against United States, winning the game 3:0 without making too much effort. Dunga made four changes to the team that beat Egypt with Maicon, Miranda, Alex Santos and Ramires starting the game. The aforementioned players, with the exception of Maicon, who is already an established footballer, showed that Brazil shouldn’t worry about the future. Dunga will continue to rotate his players considering that his team have already ensured place in the next round, but we have no doubts that he will ask the players to win the game. We expect to see another convincing attacking performance from Brazil, although they are likely to have problems at the back.

Betting verdict

We are likely to see a very open match, which is not really characteristics of Italy’s games, but Azzuri have no choice but to try and win the match. Considering that both teams have plenty of attacking potential, over 2.5 goals looks like a very good choice.
