Transfer news and rumors

More news
More news about Tottenham

Holders Tottenham will be looking to create an early advantage in the first leg at White Hart Lane and make a giant step towards Wembley. Burnley knocked out Arsenal in the last round and they will be looking to make a good result before the return leg.

Jermain Defoe is close to a comeback

Harry Redknapp insisted on bringing in another striker in January and his wishes have been fulfilled. Jermain Defoe’s transfer from Portsmouth looks to be a done deal and the miniature forward will be back at Tottenham. Defoe spent just one year at Portsmouth but he managed to fulfill his great potential and now he will finally be a starter for Spurs. He could even be in contention for this match but we will just have to wait and see. Spurs have suffered a small dip in form lately but they are still competing in four competitions and will be looking to continue as long as possible. Tottenham played a very good game in the FA Cup tie against Wigan and they easily won the match. Redknapp didn’t field the strongest line-up against Wigan, but the manager simply has plenty of options to choose from and the changes he makes do not affect the results. This is a big quality when the team have a busy schedule and that is a main reason why they are doing well in all the competitions entered. Redknapp will not be able to count on Bent, Hutton, Jenas, Huddlestone and Giovanni, but he will have no problems replacing them.

Burnley look to Wembley

Burnley are doing really well this season and they are currently fifth-placed team of the Championship. They managed to reach the semi-final of the Carling Cup with an impressive win over Arsenal and now they will give their best in order to eliminate Tottenham and qualify for the final at Wembley. However, the team suffered a dip in form lately as they lost the last two league matches, while they were held to a goalless draw by QPR in the FA Cup. Burnley produced a stunning display in the last round against Arsenal, with veteran keeper Brian Jensen particularly impressive. The Clarets will be hoping that Jensen will be at his best in this match as well and that he will be able to keep opposition strikers at bay. The visitors will be very motivated to get a good result from this match as the return leg will be played at their Turf Moor. Former Manchester City left-back, Steven Jordan is available after suspension, while Steven Caldwell remains suspended. Chris McCann and Kevin McDonald are still doubtful, while Remco van der Schaaf is likely to miss the match due to kidney complaint.

Betting verdict

Burnley have already proved that they were a very good team and Spurs will have problems breaking them. The visitors are likely to adopt a defensive approach, while Tottenham are also not going to risk too much. Therefore, our advice is to bet on under 2.5 goals.
