Middlesbrough is up for another difficult season, after selling five first team players and only replacing them with yet unproven players. Southgate is confident the team is strong enough but there are few who would disagree. After announcing battle for Champions League place at the start of the last season, Spurs had a disappointing season and finished eleventh. They continued to bring new players and we will see if those who arrived will be enough to challenge top four finish. After seeing Keane leave, Ramos is afraid that Berbatov will do the same.

Boro is weaker this year

The team has been on the low in recent years, and they were afraid for survival near the end of the season, but managed to finish six points above the relegation zone. And when it was expected that the team will strengthened the squad, they did just the opposite by allowing no less than five first team players leave the club. Those players include Mark Schwarzer, Fabio Rochemback, Luke Young, George Boateng and Lee Cattermole. Only Emnes and Digard joined the club, both are young prospects but probably not yet ready for the big stage. And their best player Stuart Downing is unhappy with the state the team is in, and he could express desire to leave. Pogatetz and Arca are injured and they will probably miss this game.

Spurs still active in the transfer window

After the arrival of Juande Ramos, the team started playing more consistent, but it was too late to significantly improve their league standing. The team witnessed some major changes this year, as Robbie Keane, Robinson, Malbranque, Chimbonda and Tainio left, while some exciting players joined the team, such as Bentley, Modrić, and Dos Santos. Two goalkeepers arrived, Heurelho Gomes and Cesar Sanchez. Berbatov also seems to be on the verge of joining Manchester United, while Andrej Arshavin could take his place. The team now looks very well balanced, and Bent finally started scoring some goals, and Ramos can be optimistic. Still, we have to wait until the transfer window finishes, and see the final outcome. Only, Alan Hutton is injured for this game.

Betting verdict

Middlesbrough is weaker than last year, and looks destined for relegation struggle. Some key players left the team, and only two young players arrived to replace them. Pogatetz and Arca probably will not feature which will limit Southgate’s options. Spurs look very good at the moment despite the speculations regarding Dimitar Berbatov. Bentley and Modrić have improved their game, and Ramos is happy to see Gareth Bale free from injuries. We think that Spurs will have no troubles winning the game.
