After almost five months and twenty matches, Chievo finally lost, which ended the longest positive run in the history of Verona side. Flying Donkeys were stopped in Mantova and home side showed that they deserve a much higher place. Chievo were robbed of a penalty, they probably didn’t deserve to lose but anyway it was one of their weakest games in the season. Vicenza celebrated against unmotivated Frosinone and definitely secured their place in the league. They don’t have to fear play-out now and after a nightmare autumn they still managed to escape towards the midtable. After a well done January transfer window Vicenza are much stronger than in the first part of the season. If they keep the current squad the next season will be much better for them.

Chievo had luck thanks to their rivals’ results.

It turned out that Veronesi have nothing to worry about since both AlbinoLeffe and Bologna have lost. However, third team is now only three points behind but this is enough. Iachini’s side are hosting Bari after Vicenza and travel to Grosseto. victories in these two matches will probably be enough for the elite. They would have a seven-point lead and mathematically secure their place. It would be a deserved epilogue of this season for the club that deserve the express return to Serie A. They didn’t panic after relegation, but kept their potential and created a great team that really seemed fascinating in some matches in the second part of the season. The most important thing now is that they have the basis for the next seasons and with few back-ups they won’t have problems in Serie A.

Wrapping the season up

We have mentioned that Vicenza reinforced their squad with five first-league players which paid off. A winning series at Menti, where they didn’t win a single team in the first part of the season, saw them move up towards the middle. Gregucci survived on the bench although he was on the verge of getting fired several times. The players and the fans saved him but this is probably his last season on Vicenza bench. Anyway, his heir will get a quite good squad so biancorossi shouldn't worry about the next season. Of course, they will have to do much better in the summer transfer window.

Betting Verdict

We don’t believe that Chievo will gamble in this game. Their motivation is much higher so incase they win and some other games end up favorably, they can already start celebrating. In the first part of the season Chievo celebrated 3:1 and since then both sides have progressed but we can’t see how Vicenza can resist them. The fact that they have no pressure will help them but the difference in the quality is obvious and a home win shouldn't come into question.

Team news : Only Pellissier is out for Chievo. Matteini, Cudini, Bernardini and Schwoch are out for Vicenza.
