 The wolves have used Leverkusen’s failure in the best way and now they are level on points with them, after triumphing in Frankfurt. Stuttgart suffered an away defeat against Dortmund and this way lost all hope that they could play in the Champions League next season.
A win would help Wolfsburg leapfrog Stuttgart
The wolves have played excellent in the second part of the season and it would be a waste if they don't get rewarded for their effort with a place in UEFA Cup next season. In the last match Wolfsburg let Frankfurt know on the very start that they will take three points which in the end they did. Grafite’s, Schafer's and Dzeko's strike helped Wolves mark a perhaps decisive triumph of the season in which they had the aim to get in one of the European competitions.
Coach Magath did a great job in the squad that last year barely avoided relegation and now they are equal contenders for Europe which would mean a dream come true for the Wolves. Magath will field the same players that have won in Frankfurt by the middle of this week which means that the Wolves will play in a very offensive formation. If Wolfsburg win in this match, they will stand good chance of getting automatic promotion to UEFA Cup, depending on what they do in the last round in Dortmund. Ozturk, Santana, Van Der Heyden, Deumeland, Rama and Alex are injured and won’t play.
Winning at home, losing away
Former champion will fear for their place in Europe in the last two rounds, especially because they are up against direct rivals and after that they are hosting Bielefeld in need for survival points. The only bright spot in the Stuttgart squad is scorer Mario Gomez who has scored only two goals for his side in the match against Dortmund, but still this wasn’t enough to take at least one point.
Besides losing in Dortmund coach Veh is left without excellent young player Serdar-Tasci who got injured in the finish of the match and will have to miss the last two rounds. Coach will give a chance to Hilbert instead who will together with Hitzlsperger and Basturk support attacking tandem Gomez-Cacau. The return of captain Fernando Meira will definitely contribute to defense stability, just like Hitzlsperger’s return will contribute to midfield. The fact that Stuttgart haven’t lost last seven games against the wolves favours them. Tasci, Trash and Perchtold won’t travel due to injuries.

In the first part of the season Stuttgart celebrated 3:1 in front of their fans but we should mention that Wolfsburg’s form back then was not nearly as good as today. The stake is high for both sides so we shouldn’t expect a too attractive football or plenty of goals.
