When the schedule had been announced at the start of the championship, it was expected that this duel might be crucial regarding Champions League and title contenders. Unfirtunatelly for the fans, Sunday duel of two great rivals is not crucial at all. Both Spurs and Reds have ended another unsuccessful season long time ago.

At least Spurs have the trophy

Although Carling Cup is not particularly significant competition, this trophy means a lot for the Spurs. Their fans have already forgotten what it’s like to win trophies and this reminder was good for them. After the disastrous start, the league was not interesting, and, after the elimination from UEFA Cup by PSV, Spurs have practically ended the season two months before the official end. In these couple of last games, Ramos had checked his players to decide who he can count on for the next season and it is sure he will be very active in the next transfer window. Former manager of Seville has proved he can create a team, we don’t doubt that the fans will certainly have something to look forward for the next season. Luka Modric has already emptied the budged siginificantly, and, should Berbatov leaves, money would come in allowing Ramos to purchase what he needs.

However, against Liverpool, Ramos will certainly give the last shot to the players that still haven’t secured their place in the squad for the next season. Bale and Ledley King are injured, while all others are ready and it would be interesting to see what they can do against Liverpool because they had defeated them only once in the last five seasons.

Benites has done it to stay

It is a real miracle that Benites will stay in Liverpool. He has once again managed to convince the fans that everyone else is to be blamed for the trophyless season. Permanent addition of new players that can play tough, close the ways to the goal, but not to create the advantage has led Liverpool only to their fourth position, and the title dreams had been scattered away in October already. Still, you cannot say that Liverpool didn’t make any progress this season. Last year was finished with 21 points behind Manchester United, while they are only 11 points behind them this season. Key man that initiated this progress with his goals was definitely – Torres. Young Spanish turned out to be top buying and, if Benites finds just another two players to make a difference and put in some creativity in the middle, then Anfield might have something to hope for.

Reds are still entering the game with Spurs without real motives. They have secured the 4th place and can’t wait for the season to be over. Kewell, Aurelio and Agger are injured, while Rafa will again choose a different line up in his attempt to break a record in the number of different formations he played this season.

Betting verdict

It is hard to predict a winner in the game where rivals have nothing to fight for. Both of them can’t wait fore the season to be over. Both of the managers will choose combined formations, that is for sure, and in a situation like that, we could witness many mistakes in defense and pretty undisciplined game. This is supposed to bring a lot of goals. However, the tradition does not support that choice, so be careful with the bet.
