England - Premier League: Everton vs Chelsea Everton will feel hard done by after losing the Merseyside derby despite being the better team and the Toffees are in for another difficult task. They now play host to leaders Chelsea, who boosted their title hopes by defeating Arsenal at Stamford Bridge but with United breathing down their necks, the Blues will have to try and win this game as well.
Another defeat at Anfield
Everton had a great chance to finally win a Merseyside derby at Anfield after Sotiris Kyrgiakos was sent off in the first period but the Toffees failed to profit from their numerical advantage and even allowed Liverpool to score the winner after the big mistake from Tim Howard. The defeat will serve as a big blow for the players’ confidence, especially as it came after the good run of results, although a good result against Chelsea would make things a whole lot better. The hosts are aware they cannot afford to attack the Blues and they will rather adopt a cautious approach. Since the visitors will also play patiently, we expect a very tight game and betting on no goals in the first half at 3.00 offered by William Hill looks like the right thing to do.
David Moyes suffered a big blow as Marouane Fellaini picked up an ankle injury that will sideline him for at least few weeks, and with Steven Pienaar also suspended for this clash, the boss has to consider playing Mikel Arteta from the start or using Johnny Heitinga as a holding midfielder, in which case Philippe Senderos would start in the heart of defence. Dinyar Bilyaletdinov is also pushing for the starting place and we really don’t know why the Russian hasn’t featured at all during the past few weeks, especially after the fruitful start to his career at the club.
An easy win over Arsenal
The game against Arsenal showed just why Chelsea are considered to be the number 1 candidates for the Premiership title as the Blues have beaten the title rivals without too many problems. They, however, need to continue the rich vein in form as United are trailing by just two points and we expect the Blues to put in another strong performance at Goodison Park. Carlo Ancelotti’s side are expected to win the midfield battle since Everton have major problems in this area of the team and that should help the visitors a great deal. Therefore, odds of 1.76 offered by 188bet on away win do look tempting.
Carlo Ancelotti will probably make a couple of changes to the team that beat Arsenal, with Deco and Joe Cole pushing for the starting places. Juliano Belletti, Jose Bosingwa and Micahel Essien are still on injury list but that shouldn’t be a problem as they’ve been out for quite a while. Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka will again lead the line in a 4-4-2 diamond formation, and the attacking duo is expected to continue their good scoring run.
Betting verdict
Everton are missing a couple of important midfielders and they are aware their best chance is to try and prevent Chelsea from scoring, which is not going to be easy. However, the Blues will also play patiently and will not rush into anything, and this is why we see under 2.5 goals as a very good choice here.
