Scotland - Premier League: Celtic vs St.MirrenCeltic continued the poor run of results by losing to Dundee United and they are already four points behind the fierce rivals, which means every next game is a must-win for them. St Mirren are doing surprisingly well so far and they enter this match without any pressure.
What is going on at Celtic?
Celtic were seen as favourites for the SPL title before the season started but due to some unexpected problems, the Bhoys are trailing their fierce rivals by four points already. Tony Mowbray is still unable to get the best out of this very talented team and persistent injury problems are not helping one bit. The boss will be looking for response from his players after the Dundee United defeat and the Bhoys are expected to continue the run of big wins against St Mirren. Therefore, we see a good value in backing Celtic to win with -1 handicap at odds of 1.80 offered by Stan James.
As we have already said, Tony Mowbray’s job is not an easy one and numerous injuries are only making it harder. Influential midfielders Scott Brown and Shaun Maloney will miss next two moths of action through injury, while keeper Artur Boruc remains on the sidelines. The good news is captain Stephen McManus is back after serving his suspension, while midfielders Zheng Zhi and Paddy McCourt are back in contention after recovering from injuries.
St Mirren doing well on the travels
St Mirren are sitting in 7th place in the SPL at the moment, which is a very high position for the team that are normally involved in a difficult relegation struggle. They are, however, just five points clear of the bottom-placed Falkirk but they are not threatened just yet. Even the best teams in the league struggle to break them at times and it looks as though they’ll be able to avoid the drop for the fourth season running. The Buddies cannot really hope to get something from this match, especially since they failed to score in three of the last four games against Celtic and we see a good value in backing St Mirren not to score at odds of 1.81 offered by Betfair.
Boss Gus MacPherson will have John Potter back after the player missed the last game through facial infection and he has no fresh injury worries whatsoever. MacPherson is therefore likely to field a similar line-up to that which started the Hibernian game but that still doesn’t give them too big a chance to escape Parkhead with at least one point.
Betting verdict
The Bhoys have been far from convincing lately and they will have some problems to break the visitors. However, we don’t think they will stop once they score the opening goal since Tony Mowbray definitely wants a big win. We therefore expect to see an open game and over 2.5 goals looks like a good option.
