Tampere climbed above the relegation zone after the great comeback against Inter in midweek. They came from two goals down to win the match and that was a great boost for players’ spirits. JJK slipped to the relegation play-off spot after losing to direct relegation rivals RoPS and they don’t have much to hope for in this match either.

Tampere made a great comeback

After winning back to back titles in 2006 and 2007, Tampere struggled to stay in the top of Finnish football. They ended the last season in 7th place and are struggling this term as well. A couple of very important players left the club last winter, whereas they replaced them mostly with youngsters. Nevertheless, Ari Hjelm has created a very good team but it is more than clear that they won’t be able to join the title race. The team are now in 10th place, seven points adrift of European places and a good run of results could see them enter the race for Europa League places. Tampere hosted Inter in midweek and things were not looking good since they were two goals down at the start of the second period, but they made a great comeback after Inter’s keeper was sent off for a professional foul and managed to win the game 3:2. Brazilian Rafinha, who arrived to the club as a striker but now plays at right-back, scored the winning goal and he once again proved he had no problems playing wherever the boss needs him. Boss Hjelm still has some selection problems as Petrescu, Jarvinen and Pohja are out with injuries but Jari Niemi has recovered and he is fit to play.

JJK are largely struggling

JJK were promoted to top tier of Finnish football after winning Ykkonen last season and they opted to keep the squad together without too many new players. However, they stayed without their top scorer, Babatunde Wusu, who scored 35 goals in 45 appearances for the club and that was a big blow for the team. It is clear after the 12 played rounds that JJK lacks the quality to match other Veikkausliiga teams and they will struggle to avoid relegation. They picked up just 7 points from 11 games and are currently occupying a relegation play-off place. The team missed a good chance to increase their survival chances having lost to direct relegation rivals RoPS and they face another difficult task this weekend. JJK brought just one point from five away games and they don’t have much to hope for against Tampere. The visitors are missing Toni Koskela, Matti Lahitie, Antto Tapaninen and Niko Kautto, which only add to the worries.

Betting verdict

Tampere are one of the top teams in Finnish Veikkausliiga even though they are still in the bottom part of the table. The hosts are much better team than JJK, who are missing several important players and we expect Tampere to win with relative ease.
