Wigan vs Portsmouth goals and highlights

These teams will finish the season in the bottom part of the table but at least they will not have to worry about survival. Wigan will try to end the season with a win and thus end the poor run of results, while Portsmouth would probably be happy just to avoid defeat.

Bruce is already thinking about the summer

Wigan managed to ensure survival few weeks back and it seems that they have stopped playing football from that moment. Steve Bruce has been unable to motivate his players in the last few games and that is why the results are very poor lately. This team will undergo major changes this summer and it seems that everybody at the club are more concentrated on building the team for the next season rather than finishing this in the right way. Steve Bruce has opted against signing striker Amr Zaki on regular basis, mostly because of the player’s indiscipline, while another Egyptian striker, Mido will probably return to Middlesbrough after this match. Antonio Valencia, Lee Cattermole and Paul Scharner are attracting a lot of attention and they, too, could leave the club at the end of the season. If all these players leave the club Bruce will have big gaps to fill and no wonder that he is already searching for replacements. All these transfer dealings have prevented both the manager and players from concentrating on the last few games and we don’t think that they will be very motivated in this match either. Steve Bruce has called his players to win the game for the fans but we are yet to see if they will be able to do that.

Portsmouth finally ensured survival

Portsmouth finally managed to ensure Premier League survival in the penultimate round of the league campaign and everybody at the club will definitely be happy to see the back of this season. The team have experienced big problems ever since Harry Redknapp left for Tottenham and they were in the dangerous zone throughout the season. Everybody could see that they were too good a team to get relegated but it wasn’t until the final stage of the Premiership campaign that they picked up enough points to be safe. Things were not looking good after the defeat against Blackburn and they had to beat Sunderland last weekend in order to boost their survival hopes. Paul Hart’s team dominated their opponents from the very start but it was Sunderland who took the lead just before the hour mark. However, John Utaka leveled the score in the very next minute, while Bardsley’s own goal and Traore sealed the win for Pompey. That game pretty much summed up the entire season as Pompey were struggling but they eventually came good thanks to the sheer quality. Portsmouth will finally be able to play one game without any pressure and we expect them to play a very good game.

Betting verdict

Wigan and Portsmouth are two evenly matched teams and neither side will be under any pressure on Sunday. Both teams will try to end the season with a win but they are likely to cancel each other out. Therefore, our advice is to bet on draw.
