This is going to be one of the most exciting matches in the Premiership closing round as both teams will have something to play for. Fulham are on the verge of ensuring European qualification and they only need one more point to mathematically ensure the seventh place, whereas Everto need a win in order to beat Aston Villa to the fifth place in the standings.
Cottagers are on the verge of historic success
We have spent a lot of time praising Fulham this season and it is now evident that they deserve all the praise. Cottagers made a tremendous progress from the team which usually fight to avoid relegation to the one fighting for European places. As we all know, boss Roy Hodgson is the one who made this happen and it now seems that they even ensured the place in next season’s Europa League, which would be a remarkable achievement. With two impressive wins, over Aston Villa and Newcastle, the Cottagers reached 53 points and it seems that will be enough to finish seventh. They are now two points clear of Tottenham, the only team who can leapfrog them in the standings, while Roy Hodgson’s team also have superior goal difference by five goals. Considering that Tottenham will play their last match at Anfield, Fulham could easily remain in seventh place even if they lost to Everton. Nevertheless, one point would definitely guarantee them European qualification, thus the hosts are likely to adopt a very cautious approach. Even though both Johnson and Zamora have recovered from injuries, they will have to fight for their place in the starting line-up as Kamara and Nevland have done a great job in their absence. However, even the strikers will have to do a lot of defensive work against Everton and that is something that is completely normal at Fulham.
Everton want to remain fifth
Just like Fulham, Everton have had an extremely successful season. You all know the problems David Moyes had had with injuries, but his team managed to overcome all the problems and the Toffees now have got the chance to beat Aston Villa to the fifth place, while they will also fight Chelsea for the FA Cup trophy at Wembley. Even though David Moyes’ team have already ensured European qualification, they want to finish fifth and will therefore try to win this match. Nevertheless, they will not give their maximum at Craven Cottage as the FA Cup final will be played just six days later. Just like in most of the games this season, the visitors will first make sure to stop Fulham from scoring before starting to think about the attack. Everton can finish fifth even if they fail to win this game, but only if Aston Villa do not beat Newcastle, which is not impossible as the Magpies will have plenty of motives in that match. David Moyes will not make too many changes to his starting line-up and he is likely to start with either Saha or Jo as a lone striker. The visitors will adopt a cautious approach at Craven Cottage and we are likely to see a real competitive match, with not too many clear-cut chances.
Betting verdict
Both Fulham and Everton are famous for their rock-solid defences and neither team will risk too much in this match. They will probably play patiently and wait for the news from Liverpool and Birmingham. If all things go as planned, we could easily see a share of spoils at Craven Cottage and definitely a low-scoring match.
