Hughes will have Robinho and Zabaleta back for the match with United, but Gelson Fernandes is out with injury. Elano has been given leave of absence for family reasons and he may sit out this match. Kompany will be back in midfield, while Hamann and Sturridge will be relegated to the bench. Therefore, Hughes will be able to field his strongest line-up in this match.

United have to win this derby

United are eight points behind leaders Chelsea and Liverpool, with a game in hand though, and they cannot afford any more slip ups. They were not punished for the goalless draw with Aston Villa as both Chelsea and Liverpool failed to win their respective games and this is a good chance to close the gap behind leaders as Chelsea will play Arsenal on Sunday. United were held to another goalless draw, by Villarreal on Tuesday but Ferguson will not have been too disappointed as it ensured progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Now, the team turns to the very important match with their local rivals and only a win would satisfy their ambitions. Ferguson will have Berbatov back after injury and he is expected to partner Rooney in attack, while Van der Saar and Vidic return after being rested in midweek. Gary Neville and Paul Scholes have started training after recovering from injuries but only Neville will be in contention for this match. Long-term absentees Brown and Hargreaves are still out.
