Arsenal returned to the title race with an impressive derby win over Manchester United and the players will enter this match in high spirits. Wenger’s young guns once again impressed in the Carling Cup and some of them are pushing for the places in the first team. Villa’s two successive defeats saw them fall down the Premiership standings and the visitors will be eager to end the poor run at the Emirates.

Arsenal are back in the title race

Just when everyone in England started thinking that Arsenal will lose another derby and end their title ambitions, the Gunners impressed against Manchester and they are now back in the title race. Wenger had a lot of problems with injured players before the game in question but he was boosted by the return of Gallas, Sagna and Walcott, as the players had recovered from injuries just in time to face United. The hosts started slowly and Manchester had a couple of good chances early on but two goals from Samir Nasri decided the match and the Gunners emerged victorious. Once again we could see attractive attacking football from Arsenal’s youngsters and we should expect nothing less against Aston Villa. As expected, Wenger fielded very young side for the Carling Cup match against Wigan, but once again the kids showed that the club will not have to worry about the future, having beaten full strength Wigan side 3:0. Wenger rested all the first team regulars in that match and they will be ready to face Villa. Gallas and Silvestre impressed in the centre of defense against Manchester and they could be preferred to Kolo Toure once again. With Adebayor injured and Van Persie suspended, the French manager will probably opt for Bendner as a lone striker, although Vela will be ready to step in if needed. Eboue, Eduardo and Rosicky are still injured and they will not be able to help the teammates in this match.

Villa want to return to winning ways

Villa is in danger of losing their good league position after two successive defeats in the Premier League. It will be difficult to get back on track at the Emirates but this Villa team has the quality to surprise the Gunners. The team was unlucky to lose last two games, having dominated the matches against Newcastle and Middlesbrough but they will now have to concentrate on the match with Arsenal. Aston Villa didn’t play at their best against Middlesbrough but they still had enough chances to win the match. However, the visitors profited from two shocking defensive mistakes by Villa’s defense and won the game. This match showed that even though the team’s attack is impressive they could improve in defense. If they repeat that kind of performance against Arsenal, it will be very difficult to achieve a positive result. The team didn’t have a match in midweek and that will have done a team a lot of good after the hectic schedule in the last month or so. Martin O’Neill might have Luke Young and Stillian Petrov back for this match, as they have both started training but he will be sweating over the fitness of John Carew, who missed the last game. Still, Agbonlahor, Milner and Ashley Young should be able to score at least one goal at the Emirates.

Betting verdict

Arsenal is buoyed by the derby win over Manchester and they will be very motivated to continue with good performances. The visitors lost the last two games and they will try to make things right against Arsenal. Both teams will adopt attacking approach and this should be very exciting match, with a lot of goals.
