 Barcelona took over at the top by beating Malaga in the last round. The match against Valladolid is an opportunity for the Catalans to assert their position. The Purple from the town on Pisuerga, shouldn’t trouble the hosts too much. Valladolid shocked Sevilla by beating them at home and once again the team showed that they play the best against the strongest teams.
Valladolid will not surrender
The Champions League match against Basel showed that the players need to work hard and have the right approach even against the weak teams if they want to win the match. The draw against the Swiss is the result of underestimating the opponent, which Barca trashed in Switzerland. They will not have an easy job against Valladolid, as their defense is one of the top five in Primera, while also attack is respectable. Still, Barca have a couple of players, who can change the course of the game. Messi, Eto, Henry and Xavi among others have the quality to win a match for their team. These are the ones that make all the difference against the good teams like Valladolid and the top teams that have these kinds of players. Coach Guardiola expects traditionally defensive approach of the visitors, who will try to hit Barca on the counterattacks. The absence of Andres Iniesta, who is set to miss next six weeks through injury, will be a big blow. With Alexander Hleb still far from the desired form, Xavi Garcia will have to excel in the creative department.
The match against Sevilla showed the strength of Valladolid
Last week Valladolid started the cycle of four games against the strongest teams in Primera. Contrary to all expectations and in accordance with our preview, the Purple crossed the first hurdle successfully, having beaten Sevilla. Even though they trailed by two goals, the team managed to overturn the deficit by scoring three goals, and win the game. Besides Ogbeche, Canobbio and Jonatan Sesma started scoring and that is very promising. With ten points, the Castillans are currently 14th in the overall standings, three points clear of Recreativo, who is in the relegation zone. It is highly unlikely that Mendilibar’s team will repeat the result at Camp Nou but the players will feel confident after the win last weekend. It will be easier to play Barcelona, now that they managed to beat strong team like Sevilla. However, they will be troubled by the fact that they lost all four away games this season.

Barcelona is a big favourite to win this match and they will probably not repeat the slip up against Basel. The visitors would be satisfied with good performance and a defeat. Bet on home win.
