This week England - Premier League matches
|
Blackburn managed to snatch a point from West Brom even though Benny McCarthy was sent off in the first half and they will look to build on that result when they meet Chelsea. The Blues recovered well after the derby defeat from Liverpool and won the next two games, scoring eight goals. However, they lost from Roma in the Champions League and they will see this match as an opportunity to return to winning ways.
Andrews salvaged a point against West Brom
This will be very important match for Blackburn, as the defeat could see them slip in the dangerous zone. The team continued the run of poor results, having failed to win in the last five games. Their match against West Brom was marked by controversial refereeing decisions and the first of those was in Blackburn’s favour. The Rovers were awarded a penalty early on for a foul on Roberts and McCarthy scored from the resulting penalty. However, the South African striker was dismissed before the break for the second bookable offence and that completely changed the course of game. The Baggies managed to overturn the deficit but Keith Andrews scored in the dying moments of the game and the game finished 2:2. Former MK Dons skipper has done a great job adapting to the Premier League and he is expected to start along Vincent Grella in the centre of the park. It looks that Paul Ince will have Ooijer back after injury, while Emerton will miss the game after being injured against West Brom. Ince may receive a big boost, as Santa Cruz is nearing his return and he might be rushed into action against Chelsea, especially as McCarthy is suspended.
Chelsea lost from Roma
After losing the derby match against Liverpool, Chelsea showed a lot of character, having recorded two convincing wins in the Premier League. The team defeated Hull and Sunderland, scoring eight goals in the process and kept two clean sheets. Those two results restored some of the lost confidence but the Blues suffered another setback, as they lost to Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday. Scolari will not have been disappointed with the result as much as with very disappointing performance. The match should serve as a Wake up call for the sleeping giants. The team’s defending was awful and this is something they mustn’t repeat if they want to win the title in England. Roma’s players were allowed too much space and even though Chelsea dominated the match, the Italians easily took all three points. Scolari still have a lot of injured players, as Ashley Cole, Essien and Carvalho are out, while Ballack is very doubtful. However, Joe Cole and Drogba have recovered from injuries and they will be in the starting line-up. Chelsea need all the points in order to stay at the top but they will not have an easy job in Blackburn.
Betting verdict
Paul Ince will probably opt for a more defensive approach and his team will try not to leave too much space for Chelsea’s players. The visitors will be patient and they will not risk too much. We expect a tough midfield battle and not too many goals.
