After the 16-match unbeaten run, Liverpool was in danger of slumping to back to back defeats but Gerrard managed to salvage a point against Atletico thanks to an injury time penalty. West Brom, on the other hand was denied a win by conceding in the dying moments of the match with Blackburn and the Baggies will try to create a surprise at Anfield.

Liverpool suffered a big scare

Liverpool’s magnificent run of results came to an end last week at White Hart Lane, as the Reds lost from Tottenham despite dominating the match. The team produced another good performance and they were unlucky to lose all three points. Chelsea has taken over at the top and the Reds want to return there as soon as possible. Rafa Benitez’s men had a good chance to ensure the progress into the next round of Champions League, as they faced Atletico at Anfield. However, they failed to take control of the game and it was the visitors who took the lead through Maxi Rodriguez. When it looked that the Reds will lose the second match in a row, referee awarded them the penalty in injury time, and Gerrard made no mistake. The team will be looking to return to winning ways when they meet WBA and also restore some of the lost confidence. Rafa Benitez will be sweating over the fitness of Fernando Torres and Daniel Agger, who looks to have broken a finger and that might leave the Spaniard with just Carragher and Hyppia in the centre of defense, as Martin Skrtel is also injured. Still, regardless of the problems the hosts are the favourites to win this match and WBA’s attacking approach could make the job a lot easier.

West Brom will try to end the bad run

West Brom ended the three match losing run against Blackburn, but they were denied a win the dying moments of the match. And their job is not about to be made easier as they will play Liverpool and Chelsea in the next two games. The baggies really had a good chance to return to winning ways, as the visitors stayed with ten men when McCarthy was sent off in the first half. Tony Mowbray’s men managed to overturn the deficit and they were just few minutes from the first win in four matches, but Andrews scored late on to deny them what would be a valuable win. With three points from that match, the team would have been in the middle of the table and now they are in the relegation zone. The battle for survival has never been more interesting but Mowbray will hope that his team will climb up the table very soon. The Baggies will not defend in numbers at Anfield but rather look for the chance to hit the hosts on counterattacks and we should see an interesting match. West Brom is still without Clement and Kim, but Teixeira and Meite might return to the squad, while James Morison is doubtful.

Betting verdict

Liverpool will be very determined to get back on track and they will attack from the start. As we have already said, WBA will not be concentrated only on defense and we expect an open game and recommend betting on over 2.5 goals.
