This week England - Premier League matches
|
Another big derby gets underway on Saturday as both Arsenal and Manchester looking to stay close to the leaders. Arsenal is in a lot of problems and they failed to win the last three games and the Gunners will see this match as a chance to kick-start their season. United is slowly reaching the desired form and they will be very motivated to win this match and put extra pressure on Chelsea and Liverpool. Both teams have some problems with injuries but Arsene Wenger is in much more difficult position than his counterpart.
The Gunners are misfiring
In the last couple of games Arsenal have shown that they do not have what it takes to fight for the title. Arsene Wenger is under a lot of pressure and he started blaming everyone but his players for the poor results. After the defeat at Stoke, Wenger was highly critical of the opponent, saying that his players were deliberately injured (full story available at Arseblog). This is so far from the truth and it is just Wenger’s way of coping with the current problems. He certainly won’t say that his players are not good enough to win the title but rather try to look for excuses elsewhere. After the defeat from Stoke and draw against Fenerbahce the players’ spirits are really low and that is not the right way to enter the big derby. It is obvious that Arsenal has suffered a dip in form but if they lose this match they will effectively be out of the title race. The French manager will have a lot of problems regarding team selection. With Adebayor injured and Van Persie suspended, he will probably play Bendtner as a lone striker, while Theo Walcott is a major injury doubt. The same stands for Gallas, who has small chance to make it to the starting line-up, while Eboue is out and Silvestre is a major doubt after breaking his nose on Wednesday. The biggest problem will be Adebayor’s absence and without him the Gunners will have a lot of problems to find the net.
United back in business
Manchester United have returned to winning ways and they have a very good chance to take advantage of Arsenal’s problems and win the match. If United take all three points they will stay five points behind Chelsea and Liverpool but with a game in hand. Considering that by Saturday they will have played all title rivals away from home, they will be in pole position to win the title. Ferguson’s men are raising their form and they managed to win the last two league games. Although the team had some problems with Hull, their performance was very good and Ferguson will have been pleased to see his team creating a lot of chances. He managed to rest Van der Saar, Rooney, Berbatov and Evra against Celtic and they will return fresh to face Arsenal. The decision to leave some of the regulars almost came back to haunt Ferguson, as Celtic was close to securing the win, but Ryan Giggs salvaged a point by a late header. We felt the need to mention one interesting fact. In the last three seasons Arsenal scored six goals against Manchester and through five different players. However, with Adebayor, Van Persie and possibly Walcott out, United shouldn’t worry too much and they have good chances to keep a clean sheet at the Emirates. Still, Ferguson will have few problems with the injured players. The biggest problem will be the right-back position, as both Neville and Brown are injured, while Scholes and Hargreaves remain long-term absentees.
Betting verdict
This will be another intense affair between the big rivals and the outcome of the match is tough to predict. Still, United are in much better form and have a lot more experience, while Arsenal will be without few very important players. Therefore, we recommend betting on away win.
