This is the derby of the round 10 of Serie A. Juventus finally showed some consistency and returned to the top part of the table with wins over Torino and Bologna. They will try to beat Roma on Saturday night and write off the rivals from the race for the Champions League spot. Maybe it is too soon to talk about Roma dropping from the title race but they lost all away games this season and wasn’t able to show that they will improve and get back on the right track. However, the visitors will try to take advantage of the fact that Juventus has as much as 14 injured players and that Ranieri’s team is bleeding all over the place. Experienced coach rested Del Piero in Bologna but one of the more experienced players, Pavel Nedved stepped up to the plate and scored two goals. That result took some pressure of the team but now more players are injured, which just shows that pre-season was not done in the right way. Roma didn’t play in midweek, or to be true, they played five minutes of the match with Sampdoria, when the match was cancelled due to the downpour of almost biblical proportions. The team saved the strength for this match and that can be the advantage over Juventus.

Juventus had a poor start

After a couple of good results at the start of the season, Juventus experienced problems in all the competitions entered. The Sicilians, Catania and Palermo took the points away from Olimpico, and Juve also lost in Naples, thus Claudio Ranieri is under big pressure. Even though he claims that he is not concerned about the possible sacking, we should points out that the club has been pondering other option despite the voiced support for Ranieri. Juventus is the sort of club where only first place is a success. The win over Real in the Champions League lifted the players’ spirits, and that was followed by the win over the local rival last Saturday. Nevertheless, new failure will make the public call for Ranieri’s resignation. We still wonder how much the team, where veterans Nedved and Del Piero are key players, will be able to cope with the busy schedule. Much stronger teams than Juventus would have problems with this injury situation. We don’t want to criticize Juventus too much, as the team is giving their best considering the circumstances. Poor dealings in the transfer market, or simply waste of money spent on new players in the last two years, made the major shareholders question the ability of the people in charge of transfers.

Roma is also plagued with injuries

Roma is in a similar situation as Juventus. Spalleti cannot field his strongest line-up for some time now, captain Totti has been injured from the start of the season and dealings in the transfer market produced no results. The public is very critical of sporting director Prado’s transfer policy. Roma bought Riise, Menez, Baptista but some of them are having problems adapting and others are recovering from injuries. Awful start of the season raised the questions about coach Spalletti’s future, and he has a lot of success in the last three years. After the defeat in Udine, the president Sensi accused the players of not having enough respect for the club’s jersey. The team is in the quarantine from Monday. Spalletti himself admitted that he expects to be sacked if the things don’t improve very quickly. They are poor in the Champions League as well, having lost from Cluj and Chelsea and only defeated Bordeaux. All is not lost but if they fail to beat Chelsea on Wednesday, the chances of reaching the knockout stages of the CL fourth year in a row are very slim.

Betting verdict

The wins in the last three matches, including Real, made Juventus favourite to win this match. However, we still believe that Roma is not as weak as their away record shows. They didn’t play on Wednesday, the players will be fresh and that will be an advantage, as Juventus has more players on injury list than those ready to play. Ranieri did rest Del Piero, but it is hard to believe that Nedved can play two games in just three days, which creates a big problem in midfield, as Camoranesi is not fully fit. We are yet to see which players will Ranieri send on the pitch, but we feel that draw is most likely result. Double chance on Roma is too big and we are willing to take the chance, but with small stake.
