West Brom suffered third defeat in a row, having lost from Newcastle on Tuesday. The Baggies lost another game where they had the upper hand and Mowbray will have to solve this problem. Blackburn battled hard at Villa Park but they lost the game and the Rovers will try to take something from this match.

The Baggies lack the cutting edge

The same thing happened again for Tony Mowbray’s side, as they continue to play attractive attacking football and keep the ball possession but they desperately lack some cutting edge. West Brom conceded two goals in the first period thanks to very poor defending and their very good second-half performance was not enough for more than a consolation goal by Ishmael Miller. Tony Mowbray reverted to 4-5-1 formation with Bednar as the lone striker but despite that his team managed to dominate the game but once again failed to take their chances and lost the game. Mowbray needs all the points from this match and he will play with both Bednar and Miller in attack. The manager has been given a boost, as Kim Do-Heon was deemed fit to play and he will be pushing for the place in the starting line-up. Excellent midfielder Teixeira may be in contention for this match following his return to full training after the lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Rovers outplayed Aston Villa

After the poor showing against Middlesbrough, Paul Ince’s side showed considerable improvement against Aston Villa on Wednesday. Even though the team’s best striker Roque Santa Cruz got injured in the warm-up, Blackburn started brightly and dominated the opening stages. Stephen Warnock opened the scoring on the half four mark but Luke Young leveled the score just before the half-time. The introduction of John Carew in the second half changed the course of the match and Aston Villa won the game thanks to goals from Agbonlahor and Barry, while Emerton’s injury time goal didn’t change anything. Despite the defeat Blackburn produced very good performance and even Martin O’Neill admitted that. That will give the Rovers something to build on and they should enter the match at the Hawthorns in good mood. The only problem will be the injury to Santa Cruz, who is definitely out but Grella returns to the starting line-up after being rested on Wednesday.

Betting verdict

Both teams will try to get all three points but they will start carefully, knowing that the opponent has the ability to punish them for the mistakes. The hosts will probably take control of the game but considering their poor finishing it could happen that the first half ends goalless. Therefore, you could try betting on half-time draw.
