Manchester United returned to winning ways by beating West Ham at home, thanks to a brace from Ronaldo. The champions will be eager to take another three points and continue the title race. Hull’s magnificent run came to an end on Wednesday, as they were beaten by Chelsea but the Tigers are determined not to lose the game at Old Trafford.

United had an easy job against West Ham

After the good run of results lately, United suffered a setback, having taken just a point from the game with Everton and they cannot afford any more slip-ups. The team did well against West Ham and the win never came into question. The team scored two first-half goals through Ronaldo, newly-crowned FIFPro World Player of the Year, and the second goal was particularly impressive. Dimitar Berbatov showed once again what a great player he was by outsmarting Collins at the by-line and providing Ronaldo with the simplest of finishes. The winning margin could have been greater, as both Rooney and Tevez wasted a couple of good chances. Alex Ferguson rested some of his first team regulars in this match and all his players should be ready to face Hull, except of course for the injured Scholes and Hargreaves. Michael Carrick came on in the second period after the long spell on the sidelines and the return of the excellent midfielder will be a big boost for the team. Manchester should have an easy job, although they will have to bear in mind Hull’s recent results and the hosts have to take this game seriously.

Hull’s impressive run came to an end

After four straight wins and impressive start of the season, Hull finally lost the Premier League game, as Chelsea defeated them 3:0. Even though the result is disappointing the Tigers still have 20 points in the Premiership table and a lot of teams would want to be in their position. Phil Brown knew that all of his players would have to give their best in order to have any chances against Chelsea but the players couldn’t repeat impressive performances from the last few rounds and they easily lost the game. Early goal from Frank Lampard was probably responsible for Hull’s defeat as the Tigers were unable to recover and they rarely threatened Petr Cech. Brown was disappointed with his team’s performance but he wants the players to forget that match and turn towards the game with Manchester. Hull managed to win away games with Arsenal and Tottenham and Brown will probably remind his players of those games in preparation for the match at Old Trafford. He will have clean bill of health for Saturday’s game.

Betting verdict

United is a big favourite here, especially as Hull ended their winning run and the Tigers will not be in high spirits. We don’t have to talk too much about United’s attacking potential but the visitors too have few very good attacking players and they have the ability to score at Old Trafford. Therefore, we recommend betting on over 2.5 goals.
