This game is one of the easiest to predict as the league leaders and one of the disappointments of the season meet. Valencia are the favourites but the draw against Recreativo in Huelva almost cost them losing the top spot. This shows that surprises in Spain are often and Racing are the team that are level on points with Recreativo. The visitors suffered a misfortunate loss two minutes before time in Soria which affected the mood of the team.

A win and the end of story

After the failure in Huelva, Valencia players are left nothing else to do but beat Racing at home. They shouldn’t have any problems though Racing are pretty unpredictable. Low position on the standings doesn't always mean that the team owns no quality, on the contrary, most of Racing players are very good and they almost qualified for the Champions League last season. Therefore Valencia should be careful as green-black have drawn some of the game against strong rivals like Barcelona and Sevilla. Valencia have a unique team, several players in top form and these four or five solve the games. Racing are traditionally dangerous at Mestalla so they will try to get at least a point. Unai Emery has no need to change anything. The failure in the game against Recreativo is not the reason to change the starters. Valencia need to win in order to stay on top. The support of the fans will definitely help a lot and we will see if David Villa will manage to score again.

Patience and concentration – the formula of success

Racing gambled away the 88th-minute draw in Soria against Numancia. This speaks of the main reason of this team’s failures this season. Lack of concentration of the players saw the team from Santander on fewer points than they deserve. It is hard to expect them to achieve anything but lose with dignity in Valencia. Excellent form of their rivals, in spite of the unexpected draw in Huelva brings some hope that Racing will be able to fight a draw. But, having in mind the numerous surprises that Spanish clubs give in each round, we can’t be absolutely sure that Valencia will win. Racing draws against Sevilla and Barcelona at Camp Nou point to the fact that the match at Mestalla won't be just a routine for Valencia players. The most important thing for Racing is to get their attack to work. Mohhamed Tchite scored the equalizer against Numancia, and it would be very important for Racing if Pedro Munitis played the way he did last season.

Betting Verdict

Based on the current position on the standings Valencia are the favourites. Their victory is a realistic outcome but it is not 100% sure. If they want to win they will have to play better than last week in Huelva. Racing wish to continue the good tradition at Mestalla and possibly reach a draw.
