Both Fulham and Wigan are very close to the relegation zone but it seems that they have the quality to do much better. Fulham is without a win in their last five league games and the hosts will have to try and win this match or else they would fall into the relegation zone. After some very good performances lately, Wigan suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Aston Villa and Steve Bruce faces a difficult job of lifting the players’ spirits before this match.

Fulham needs all three points

Having taken just two points from the last five Premier League games, Fulham is now on the brink of the relegation zone and they need instant improvement. The team has enough quality to achieve mid table finish but they will have to show that on the pitch. The Cottagers drew their last two games against Sunderland and Portsmouth and maybe now is the time for a win. Fulham played a good first half against Portsmouth but they were poor in the second period and the Roy Hodgson’s men were fortunate to escape with a draw. The only positive from that game was the performance of striker Andy Johnson, who was a real menace for the Portsmouth defenders and together with Bobby Zamora he will be the biggest threat for Wigan in this match. Hodgson doesn’t experiment too much with his starting line-up, as Davies, Murphy, Bullard and Gera make a very good midfield area, although the team has some problems in defense. Except for long-term absentees Kamara and Andranik, Hodgson has full squad to choose from.

Wigan paid for awful defending

Wigan suffered a heavy defeat from Aston Villa and slipped into the dangerous zone with only 8 points from nine rounds. This was possibly the first game from the start of the season, when Wigan was outplayed by their opponents, although the Latics again created a lot of chances to score. However, the team is very poor defensively and three of the four goals were conceded due to defensive mistakes. Titus Bramble once again was to blame for Wigan’s defeat and he is certainly the weakest link in Bruce’s team. The defender made a lot of errors while in Newcastle and this might be his last ever Premier League season, as Bruce will not tolerate any more mistakes from him. The defeat was harsh on the team that outplayed Liverpool at Anfield and Chelsea at JJB stadium. Considering that Fulham will have to attack, Heskey and Zaki will have a lot of space to exploit, while the team will also be boosted by the return of Valencia, who served a suspension.

Betting verdict

Both teams are low in the Premier League standings and both sides want to take all the points and climb up the table. Fulham is still searching for a win and they will have to attack Wigan, while the hosts have good enough attacking players to punish them and maybe even won the game.
