Manchester City failed to beat Newcastle despite the fact that the Citizens had an extra man for 80 minutes and this is a good opportunity to make things right and climb up the table with three points from this match. Stoke produced another determined performance to beat Tottenham and leave the Spurs at the foot of the table. The Potters will have to work hard to avoid defeat in Manchester.

City had a night off

After the 6:0 win over Portsmouth everybody thought that it was the sign of things to come but the team’s recent performances have been a bit sketchy lately. The team lost two league games before the draw with Newcastle, although we have to say that the performances were respectable. They scored two first half goals against Liverpool, the team who rarely concedes any goals, and it was only after Zabaleta was dismissed that Liverpool took control of the game. Maybe the hype surrounding the club has affected the players but they have a very good chance in the next couple of games to significantly improve their league position. Hughes will have some problems in this match but he has big enough squad to cope. Beside long-term absentees Petrov, Vassel and Bojinov and suspended Zabaleta, MicahRichards has sustained injury (might recover in time) and Nedum Onuoha will probably fill in. Still, apart from Richards neither of these players is first team regular and Hughes will have almost the strongest line-up with Elano, Robinho, Jo and Wright-Philips among others and that should be enough for the win. The team had a night off in the UEFA Cup and the players will be fresh going into this game.

Stoke defeated Spurs

Stoke is still in the relegation zone and as predicted they are in for a very difficult season. The Potters won all their points thanks to sheer determination and won two home games led by magnificent fans support. They defeated Tottenham at home last weekend but mostly due to the fact that Spurs’ Bale was dismissed in the opening stages of the match. Even with numerical advantage Stoke struggled and they had a lot of problems in this match. Stoke took only one point from away games this season and clearly they will have a lot of problems getting a positive result in Manchester. Most of their goals come after long-range throw-ins from Rory Delap, but Hughes knows that and he will warn his players of the danger. Manager Toni Pulis will miss last season’s Player of the Year Liam Lawrence and keeper Thomas Sorensen is also likely to miss out, after horror incident against Tottenham. Without two very important players Potters’ chances of avoiding defeat have been significantly reduced.

Manchester City has an excellent team and they want to win the next couple of games and climb up the Premiership table. Hughes will be able to count on most of his regulars and his team is a big favourite here. Stoke only took one point from away games this season and they are set to be without two key players.
