Both teams have maximum number of points from the first two rounds but they will not take this game lightly. Atletico lost three of their last four games and they are looking for redemption. Liverpool has been in a magnificent form lately and their winning run now stretches to five games. The win in Madrid would probably ensure them progress into the next round.

Atletico is in poor form

Atletico started this season in style and everybody expected that they are in for a successful season. The results were really good, the star players performed very well but all that came to an end. They lost at home to Sevilla and that was followed by the embarrassing 6:1 defeat at Camp Nou. This weekend they lost to the biggest rival, Real Madrid, which made the things a lot worse. Coach Javier Aguirre can lose his job if they failed to win this game. His job has been made a lot harder, as he is suspended for the next two CL games. Aguirre will not be able to count on defenders Ujfalusi and Pablo and influential midfielder Maxi Rodriguez. Ujfalusi and Rodriguez are very important players in the team and they will be hard to replace. In the meantime Atletico managed to win both group matches, although they were very lucky against Marseille. The hosts will attack Liverpool, as this is the only way they know how to play, which could leave them exposed against very strong team which will know how to punish them.

Liverpool is magnificent

Liverpool is really impressive this season and we can now say that the Reds are favourites in this match. The team won their last five games and the players are full of confidence before this match. Liverpool showed a real character lately, having made a couple of great comebacks. They managed to win the last two games despite being a goal down (Wigan) or two goals down (Manchester City). Fernando Torres will not have the chance to face his former club, as the striker is injured. His absence shouldn’t be too big a problem considering Dirk Kuyt’s recent goal-scoring form. However, the squad will be boosted by the return of Ryan Babel and Javier Macherano, both of whom missed the win over Wigan. The team is in good position having won both group games so far and Benitez’s men will want to record another win and ensure progress to the knockout stages. The team has really matured this year and they won most of the big games this season.

Betting verdict

Atletico has a very good team but they are going through some rough period and they will miss two very important players. The hosts will attack, thus leaving a lot of space for Liverpool and we are sure the Reds will know how to punish them.
