Manchester United is going from strength to strength at the moment and they are expected to continue their excellent form and take all three points from the match with Celtic. Celtic has to take at least a point from this match if they are to stand any chances of progressing to the knockout stages. Considering their poor away form, this is easier said than done.

United started scoring goals

United is finally looking like the team that dominated both England and Europe last year. After somewhat slow start the team is now in magnificent form and they won the last five games in all the competitions entered, scoring 14 goals in the process. The attacking partnership between Berbatov and Rooney is starting to produce results, and these two have been impressive lately. The whole team is playing at the high level and Ronaldo’s return certainly helped. If United wins this match they will make a big step towards the knockout stages. Sir Alex Ferguson rested Tevez and Anderson after they had played for the national teams and these two will be back in contention for this match. Patrice Evra was forced to come off in the game against WBA and he may miss this match, but John O’Shea will be ready to step in. Scholes, Carrick and Hargreaves are still injured and Anderson will probably start the game. The hoss will be in high spirits after the convincing win over WBA and they should be able to win this match.

Celtic is in real problems

Celtic has also been in very good form lately, but only in the Scottish Premier League. The team is very convincing in their league games, they are scoring a lot of goals but things are very different in Europe. Celtic failed to beat Aalborg at home before they lost away game to Villarreal and they are now in a very difficult position in the group. The Bhoys need at least a point from Old Trafford, which is not an easy task considering United’s recent form. Celtic has good enough attacking players to be able to score in this match, but their defense will have to excel in order to stop United’s strikers. Celtic will lose some of the aerial power, as both towering strikers, Van Hesselink and Samaras are injured, but this may prove to be a good thing as the Bhoys will play more passing football on the ground and quick players like McGeady, Maloney and McDonald will make some problems to United’s defense. Defender Gary Caldwell will probably miss the match through injury and this will additionally weaken Celtic’s defense.

Betting verdict

Both teams are in good scoring form lately and we expect them to continue that trend. United has been very convincing lately and Wayne Rooney is especially impressive. The visitors will miss a couple of first team regulars but they will have to open up and try to score at least one goal, as they cannot expect to keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford.
