This week England - Premier League matches
|
Manchester City returned to winning ways with another win in the UEFA Cup over Omonia, but they will be looking to improve league form as well. They will have a difficult job against in–form Liverpool, the team that won their last three games. The Reds are playing very well at the moment, and they are tied with Chelsea at the top of the table.
City is inconsistent
Manchester City has ensured UEFA Cup spot with another win over Omonia, and it was interesting to see that Hughes fielded the strongest team despite first leg advantage. This proved that City is keen on their European campaign this season, and they didn’t want to risk anything. Still, their form is very inconsistent, and they lost to Wigan in the Premier League. The game was very interesting as both teams had a lot of chances to score. Hughes’ team scored only one through Kompany, and it was not enough and they lost the game 2:1. We have to point out that winning goal was scored from the non-existent penalty, and the visitors had every right to be aggrieved about the final outcome. The team showed some improvement against Omonia, but not until the second half when they upped the tempo, and scored two goals. Hughes was certainly happy to see winger Martin Petrov, as the Bulgarian recovered after injury, and he is now pushing for the starting place. Richard Dunne remains injury doubt, and Hughes will hope that powerful defender will recover in time for this game, as his physical presence in the box is very important.
Benitez is a happy man
This season has finally started the right way for Liverpool, and the fans are hoping this could be the season when they win the Premier League. Benitez only brought a couple of new players and they fitted right in, and the team looks very balanced now. They have the experience of last season, and Benitez has even announced that he will discard his rotation policy, that failed him last season. This doesn’t mean that same eleven players will start all the games, but the best players will start most of the games. The fans will have been happy to hear that, and they could have something to cheer about, come end of the season. The team is in a good position after winning the Merseyside derby against Everton, and the players will be full of confidence before this game. Liverpool easily defeated PSV in the Champions League, and continued with good performances. Benitez left Mascherano on the bench in that game, but only to keep him fit to play Manchester City. Robbie Keane finally scored his first goal for the club, and he is expected to do the same in the Premier League.
Betting verdict
This will be very difficult match to predict, as City has very good team but they are not in the good form. Liverpool is playing excellent at the moment, and they look very mature. The players are in good spirits after derby win, and they are closer to winning this game. We recommend small stake on away win.
