This week England - Coca Cola Championship matches
|
Leaders of the championship and the only team with all three wins so far, Birmingham City, are travelling to the ambitious Norwich who are still waiting for their first. Still Canaries are improving the form, while the leaders were deservedly beaten by Southampton in Cup on Tuesday. Uncertain...
Canaries are improving
Norwich City were brave at the hot turf of Ninian Park in Cardiff and it got back to them since they caught up the result and from 0-2 reached 2-2 for the final whistle. After the third minute goal, Canaries woke up, Jamie Cureton missed a penalty, and when Cardiff used their spot kick chance in 67 minute, it appeared that the game will be over. Still, Arturo Lupoli, signing from Fiorentina, scored two in the last 14 minutes. This was the game in which Norwich have proved their mental and physical fitness.
Glen Roeder’s team is slowly improving their form with the second point in the championship, still searching for the first win. While Roeder is desperately scrutinizing for the experienced striker (Stefen Iversen former Tottenham legend is mentioned), injury list is preventing him from picking midfielder Sammy Clingan, winger David Bell and Gary Doherty.
Blues slipped in Carling Cup
Birmingham continued with their planned gathering of points and they are the only team for now with all three wins. Barnsley was beaten routinely (2-0) at home St Andrews. Kevin Phillips scored again, but this time he was in the starting line-up. Before the first goal, Barnsley had a good chance to shock the Blues when Diego Leon hit the post after the free kick. Next part of the game brought another goal (Gary O’Connor the scorer) and the win was safe.
Although with the long bench, manager McLeish has something to be worried about. Mehdi Jaidi and Stuart Parnaby are injured, Cameron Jerome is missed in the offense, while Gary O’Connor is freshly recovered from the blow at the last game. Although Birmingham are confirming to be the favourites, they were still defeated in Carling Cup by Southampton away (2-0) and they have been completely outplayed in that fixture at St Mary’s.
Betting verdict
Blues are shaken by a cup loss and it won’t be easy for them to continue the winning streak at the crowded, loud Carrow Road. Norwich are slowly getting their confidence back, waiting patiently their first win, hoping to get it from favourites. We don’t think the guests will win here, but also the hosts might be too weak to beat the favourites at this time. That is why this is a game to avoid, or to go for a minimal stake draw.
