 Harry Redknapp had something to say to his players after the embarrassing defeat against Chelsea. Four goals that they conceded ware mostly products of defensive errors, and keeper James is also to blame. They will have to forget that result quickly as they face champions Manchester United. Manchester started the title defense with a draw at home against Newcastle, and they too will look at this game as an opportunity to return to winning ways. This will be the third match between the teams in the last month.
Portsmouth will need to recover quickly
Portsmouth was handed a tough draw before the start of the season, as they were to play two strongest teams in the league. The first game was a big disappointment, as they were humiliated by Chelsea. Keeper James and the defensive line had a nightmare game, as they were to blame for all the goals. Part of the blame for defeat has to go to Harry Redknapp, who insisted that his team employs offside traps, which allowed Chelsea a lot of chances to score. The team needs to recover quickly, as their next opponent can hurt them if they repeat the performance from last week. Redknapp was happy to see Davis, Hughes, Pamarot and Little all start training, and some of them will be fit to play. Kanu, Nugent and Primus are struggling for fitness.
Rooney and Tevez will lead the attack
The champions had been having troubles with strikers from the start of pre season, and Ferguson will be happy to finally see Rooney and Tevez play together. Young Frazier Campbell partnered Rooney in the first game against Newcastle, and he played a very good game, and was twice close to scoring. The hosts opened the game with a couple of chances, but it was Newcastle who took the lead through Obafemi Martins. Fletcher scored after just two minutes to level the score. Second half was played in a slower tempo, but the hosts almost took the lead when Vidic hit the crossbar. Michael Carrick was injured in the game and will be out for at least two weeks. Saha and Ronaldo are still injured, while Giggs, Park and Hargreaves might take some part in the game.
Betting verdict
Portsmouth will be shaken by the heavy defeat against Chelsea, but Redknapp will have to react quickly as his team faces another difficult game. He will have to work mainly on defending, as this is the area that was to blame for the defeat. The hosts will welcome some injured players back, and hope they can achieve positive result. Manchester took only a point from the game with Newcastle, but Ferguson will be glad to see Tevez and Rooney partnered in attack, and we feel that will be enough for the win.
