This week England - Coca Cola Championship matches
|
Last season’s top seat candidates are to host last year’s Premiership members. Dark clouds are hanging over both teams, with Charlton highly weakened and Reading in lower tier. However, Royals’ ambitions are no less than express come back to elite and Addicks are just another bump on the road...
Tough task for Addicks
Charlton went down in London derby with Watford (0-1) mostly because left defensive back Kelly Youge’s red card in the first interval. Watford have missed a couple of great opportunities in that first half, while Tommy Smith’s goal was the only interesting thing that have happened in the second half. It appeared that, after home side scoring a goal, guests were too weak to do anything with one man down on the turf.
Charlton’s defensive duo, Mark Hudson – Johnatan Fortune, is back from injuries and manager Alan Pardew will be relieved since he had no alternative for those two. Daren Ambrose is on the side lines for a long time, while Zheng Zhi will be available after his time at the Olympics. Charlton’s squad will be filled for this game, but Addicks still aren’t putting their best show worthy of their name despite the solid start of the season.
Royals convincing so far
After more than two years, Charlton have once again played their first Championship game at home, successfully going over Plymouth Argyle (2-0). With a goal in each half time, defender, Ibrahim Sonko, has unexpectedly appeared in the spotlight, netting his first after 18 months in the squad. Although uncertain due injury, he entered the squad at the last moment. There were chances flying on both sides, but the favoured home team’s win was indeed a deserved one.
After a draw in Nottingham and this win, Royals are pushing towards the upper part of the standings. Since his team lost three squad members from the last Premiership season, manager Steve Coppell is desperately trying to boost his team while the window is still open. The injuries haven’t missed Reading too, so the skipper and the right back, Graem Murty, midfielders, Marek Matejovski and Brynjar Gunnarson, along with defenders, Michael Duberry and Sam Sodje, are all on the injury list.
Betting verdict
This should be a derby of the round, but as you may have already read about Charlton on our web pages, this team is simply not fit for the greater achievements this season. Highly weakened Addicks will be underdogs for this fixture although home side, while favoured Reading will do their best to steal the points. It is hard to tell if they will do it despite the undoubted qualities of the well composed team playing together for a long time and only an inch weaker than last season. This is the game to avoid, or to choose draw, with small stakes.
