 Wigan was two goals down after just ten minutes of the game with West Ham, but they fought back and West Ham was forced to work hard to keep their advantage. New signings made their mark, and especially Zaki was the real threat for their opponents. Scolari’s reign as a Chelsea manager started with a convincing win over Portsmouth, and new signing Deco also proved his credentials by scoring a great goal. Chelsea is topping the table at the moment and they will be hoping to stay there until the end of the season.
Wigan showed signs of promise after a slow start
Steve Bruce doesn’t want to see his team in another relegation battle, and he acted accordingly by bringing a couple of good new players. The team did lose the first game, but showed very good football in the second half, and hinted that they have good potential. While Bruce is satisfied with his team’s efforts in the second half, he is disappointed by the fact that his team allowed two goals in the first ten minutes, and thrown themselves out of the game. After being 2:0 down, Wigan started threatening, and when Zaki scored his first goal for the team, the home side started fearing for the outcome of the game. Wigan created several good chances but couldn’t score, and will have to look for their first points in the game against Chelsea. Ryan Taylor and Eric Edman are still injured, but Bruce will be happy to see Jason Koumas fit, after scoring for Wales in a friendly game on Wednesday.
Chelsea trashed Portsmouth
Scolari immediately made his mark at Chelsea, and the fans will be happy to see their team finally playing attacking football. Chelsea scored four in Scolari’s first game in charge, and also new signing Deco scored his first goal, and showed that he works well with Lampard, and this can be the duo that can win them the title. The team did score four goals but it was partly due to some awful defending, and errors by David James. Ballack had set up Joe Cole to open the scoring, before Anelka took advantage of a defensive mistake to increase the lead. Lampard converted a penalty, and Deco fired a great shot and set the final score. Ballack was forced to leave the pitch because of injury, but he should be fit to play, while Drogba is still injured.
Betting verdict
Wigan played a good game after the opening ten minutes against West Ham. They created a lot of chances and were unlucky to score only one goal. Wigan has good attacking players, and they will try to use that against Chelsea. The visitors seem to have adopted a more attacking approach under new manager. Lampard and Deco will create a lot of chances for Anelka and Joe Cole, and we will see some goals from both teams. This will be an open game and betting on over 2.5 is a good idea.
