This week England - Coca Cola Championship matches
|
Season’s ambitions the two teams have are quite the opposite: Wolves chase promotion, Wednesday are happy to pass the season without having to fear relegation. Despite the superior kick off, bad things have happened to Owls in the last seven days, and we expect them to lose this game…
Wolves hungry for points
Ambitious Wolves have opened the season with a tough away game at Plymouth (2-2) which can be considered a suitable result considering the situation at Home Park’s turf. Despite trailing twice, Mick McCarthy’s lads pushed up to get back on their feet twice, with second goal just 12 minutes before the end. Considering the opportunities, they weren’t far from victory, but defense paid the price for their mistakes.
They too have had problems in the Cup, barely, after the extra time, turned the result over and beat League Two members, Accrington Stanley (3-2). Wolves fielded the combined squad, with half the team not figuring in McCarthy’s plans. Wolves’ two important players will be uncertain for this duel: Michael Kightly caught an easy injury in Plymouth, as well as the rookie from Derby, David Jones.
Owls outdone by injuries and shocking Cup defeat
Sheffield Wednesday are the leaders in the championship at least for a week since they sealed the most convincing opening round win over Burnley at Hillsborough 4-1. In the form, Marcus Tudgay and Akpo Sodje, showed the boss on the turf in the first twentyish minutes, and with the total of three, these two have sealed the day.
Compared with the last season (six defeats in six rounds) it was evident the Owls were eager to seal the opener. Akpo Sodje’s injury could be a problem for them since he has just recovered from ligaments injury which had put him on the sidelines for six months. This time, he is about to be back in two months time. Another blow for Owls was the defeat in Carling Cup on the home field to Rotheram after penalty shoot out (2-2 after 90 minutes), and the complete fiasco for the team is Marcus Tudgay’s injury he got in this game (out for two weeks). Thus, manager Brian Laws’ team is left with only the experienced Jamaican Deon Burton in the attack.
Betting verdict
Without their two tp players, Wednesday are without many chances at Molineux stadium and the Wolves are the absolute favorites in this fixture. McCarty’s attacking tactics will work, but still avoid betting on over 2.5 because, without their best strikers, owls may not be so efficient, since they also experienced the sudden Cup elimination shock. With Kightly and Iwelumo forward, home turf debut in the new season must be efficient and we expect to see their safe win.
