 Eintracht Frankfurt made a very good impression in the last championship and showed that they can handle the teams with more quality players. Hertha managed to fight their way to one of the European competitions, exclusively thanks to fair play, as the team with least yellow and red cards in the league.
Frankfurt want to go to Europe in the end of the season
Just like all the other teams with modest budget Frankfurt managed to bring several fine back ups this summer. Certainly the most famous names among them is experienced Greek striker Nikos Liberopoulos, who will together with his fellow countryman, Amanatidis represent Frankfurts main power in the new season. Team is also reinforced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Schalke, as well as Turkish international Umit Korkmaz who had a terrible misfortune of breaking a leg on his first training.
Frankfurt started the preparation games very weak, but as the start of the season was getting closer, the players got better and better. After the win in German Cup's first round, Frankfurt's good play saw them draw with famous Real Madrid at home, although they had the lead and the initiative during the most of the duel. Coach Funkel will field the team from the last season, except for one change in the attack, where Liberopoulos will get the chance for a debut instead of Fenin. Preus, Vaskoski, Kohler, Bajramović, Korkmaz, Proll, Kurk and Zimmermann will miss the start of the new championship due to injuries.
Pantelic is still Berlin side's main strongest weapon
Hertha managed to mark a triumph over NK Ljubljana in Slovenia in UEFA Cup first qualifier, and it was thanks to Marko Pantelic who scored the only two goals in the game. Actually two other attackers arrived during the summer transfer window, and these are Croat Srdjan Lakic who came from Kaiserslauern, and Tunisian Mohamed Amine who came from domestic championship of his country.
Coach Lucien Favre won’t be able to count the first-choice keeper and captain Christian Fiedler, who earned a serious injury ten days ago in a friendly against Newcastle, Berlin side managed to solve to their favour. First-choice keeper will undergo a surgery after which he will stay away from the pitch at least six months. In spite of many injuries in the team, as well as the absence of certain players that are at the Olympics, Hertha won't travel with the fight flag, but they will want to make the best impression possible on the opening. Friedrich, Dardai, Lucio, Fiedler, and Araguez won’t travel with the team for they are also injured, while young Kacar and Okoronkwo are in Beijing at the moment.
