After only a year M Gladbach came back to the german elite. On the other hand, the visitors in this match will be no one else, but Stuttgart, former champions in the season when M Gladbach ended up rock-bottom.
Can Borussia bring back the glorious days of the 70s
M Gladbach players and the fans are very enthusiastic, and they hope to a great success in Bundesliga. In most of the matches last season coach Jos Luhukay insisted on offensive football which turned out to be the right move, because they were winning and thrilled crowd filled Borussia Park to the last seat.
The player with most experience and team captain Oliver Neuville will again lead the team in their attempt to survive among the best, and also to qualify for one of the higher places if they have the chance. When it comes to the captain his performance on the opening is still uncertain, so the doctors will have the final decision on Saturday; until then Neuville is planned to start the match on the bench. Although coach Luhukay mostly fields 4-2-3-1 formation Borussia still play very offensive and therefore the whole team takes part in both defense and the attack. Degen, Schachten, Gohouri, Lohe, Lamidi and Coulibaly will miss the Bundesliga debut in front of 50 000 home fans because of injuries.
Stuttgart want the throne back
Stuttgart brought several famous names as back-ups thus claiming their candidacy for the German title. The biggest transfer was certainly the one of international keeper Jens Lehmann from Arsenal, whose experience will contribute to stability in the back line. Defense line will also be reinforced by an excellent Dutch international Khalid Boulhrouz who came from Hamburger this summer.
Coach Veh did an excellent job in summer preparation games, when his side won five out of six and one of the defeated sides were Arsenal. Stuttgart also had a lot of success in Intertoto Cup, but also in domestic Cup, where they marked a convincing win over Hansa from Lunenburg last week. Former captain Fernando Meira joined Turkish champion Galatasaray so German international Thomas Hitzlsperger will inherit the armband in the new season. The biggest threat for opposing keepers will again be fantastic Mario Gomez who will start the season in tandem with Marica. After a one-year break excellent Serbian striker Danijel Ljuboja came back who will start the season on the bench. Cacau, Boulahrouz, Ulreich, Mandjeck, Morys and Pischorn won’t be able to help their team because of injuries.
Betting Verdict
Last two duels of these rivals ended in minimum Stuttgart win, and interestingly Borussia managed to win only two games out of last 14 when they hosted Stuttgart. Both sides were pretty good in the preparations and in the Cup, having marked good results, so we expect nothing less in this game.
