First leg between the two teams ended with narrow Breda victory, although the result could have gone the other way. An early goal from Matthew Amoah opened the game but as it turned out, it was the only goal of the game. Breda will try to gain advantage from the fact that Rosenborg squad is injury ravaged, while the Norwegians will look to the medical team and hope to have as many players ready as possible.

How will they cope with injuries

An injury riddled Rosenborg lost the game in Holland due to a mistake by goalkeeper Rune Jarstein. Norwegians had to change their defense before the game to injuries to Demidov and Stadsgaard. Steffen Iversen had to throw in the towel during warm up due to his leg. The situation only got worse when Yssouf Koné also got injured and was substituted right before half time. Despite the injuries visitors had the control of the game thanks to Per Ciljan Skjelbred and Alexander Tettey who bossed the midfield area. But a mistake from their keeper had gifted Breda chance to take the lead and that’s what they did. Rosenborg had some chances but they weren’t converted, the hosts knew how to protect their lead and the result stayed the same. Much will depend upon which players will be ready for the game, but Norway team still has good chances of going through.

Breda looks to Lurling

Breda gained advantage before the return leg thanks to Lurling, whose shot was parried, and Amoah who converted. These two were the most dangerous players in the home team, and were a constant danger in the first half. The rest of the Dutch team did not play so good and they couldn’t take control of the game. Breda has to be content with the result because apart from the goal they haven’t made any chances. The Dutch will have to play better in the second leg and make use of the fact that Rosenborg misses a lot of first team players. I expect them to mainly play on the counter and try to use the pace of their strikers.

Betting verdict

Rosenborg is regular in European competitions and their players have a lot of experience. A lot of players are injured but they controlled the game in Holland and if some of the chances were converted they would now have much better result. Breda did win the first leg but showed nothing much, possibly due to the fact they are still in pre season. Despite all the injuries, I expect Rosenborg to win this game because of the experience of playing in Europe and because they are in better physical condition.
