Only thanks to excellent coach Bojan Prasnikar, who took over in the finfish of the last season, did Cottbus manage to stay another season in Bundesliga. On the other hand, Hoffenheim managed to get into Bundesliga for the first time after 110 years and they are 50th club who managed to do that.
Cottbus will need a lot of energy to survive
After a long and strenuous season where Energie players struggled to stay in the elite, only three months later they are to face the same task only with stronger competition.
Cottbus didn’t have a large budget during the summer transfer window, but they managed to get few fine back-ups with a pretty low one. One of them is experienced Timo Rost who will contribute a lot to the stability in the midfield while former Serbian international Ivica Iliev will be in charge for scoring. Another Serb reinforced Cottbus squad, it is experienced Pavicevic, who will thatnks to Da Silva’s injury get the chance for a debut in the back line. Rangelov will be the only real Cottbus striker in this match, supported by wingbacks, Sorensen and Skela. Pentke, Bittroff, Zimmermann, Galm and Lerchl won’t perform in the opening match of the season due to injuries.
Hoffenheim will no longer be known only for Formula 1
When a club fights they way to the higher rank, in this case the highest, sooner than planned, logical conclusion is that there were some serious investments that brought about the conditions for improvement and progress. In this case, we are talking about Hoffenheim, the club with a long but not so rich tradition. With the new owner came new means that helped a dream come true.
Under the coach Rangnick, Hoffenheim players got the opportunity to find their way from a not so favourable position in Zweite to the German elite and that is precisely what they did. Signing Brazilian Luiz Gustavo and Carlos Eduardo contributed to efficiency of the club. This summer, another countryman joined the small Brazilian colony, and it is Welington Luis De Sousa whose debut in Bundesliga will be postponed for a few weeks due to a muscle injury. The team is also reinforced by young centre back Andreas Beck who came from ex-champion Stuttgart squad. The main weapon of this newcomer will certainly be strikers Ba and Ibisevic who proved to be an excellent tandem last season. Injuries will stop Berndhart, Obasi and Strifler from playing in their first Bundesliga away game.

This match will be marked by two premieres. First one is Hoffenheim’s performance as 50th Bundesliga club since the foundation of this competition in 1963, while the other one will be first head-to-head duel of these sides. Both teams did great in the preparation games, espcailly the visitors who beat several strong European teams.
