This week England - Premier League matches
|
Arsenal enters this season with clear title ambitions, but also with a very young squad. Some of their more experienced players are injured and the pressure rests on very young players, without Premier League experience. Nevertheless, these youngsters have shown that Wenger rarely makes bad judgments, by beating Twente away, in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. West Bromwich won the Championship last year, and the transition to Premier League is always difficult. But manager Tony Mowbray made sure that the team is ready for future challenges by bringing some experienced players in. He is certain that the team will avoid relegation battle, and this is the game where they need to prove that.
Wenger believes in youngsters
Last season was not very successful for Arsenal though it didn’t seem so in the first part of the season. Wenger’s team played even better without Thierry Henry, and young stars like Fabregas and Hleb took over. They were leading the Premier League, but as the season was nearing its end, they started to fall behind. They ended the season without a single trophy, and the fans began to doubt Wenger’s recruiting policy. Wenger continued buying young players, and Nasri, Ramsey, Bischoff all arrived to the club. Hleb went to Barcelona, but his place should by occupied by Theo Walcott, who will get his chance to shine. Wenger has a lot of injury problems in this game, as Eduardo, Rosicky, Diaby and Fabregas are all out, while Nasri and Kolo Toure should be fit for this game.
Mowbray is confident of survival
West Bromwich won the Championship last season, and did that by scoring no less than 88 goals, which proves they like to attack. The team produced some breathtaking performances, and won the competition in style. Their best goal scorer last year, veteran Kevin Philips left the club, as did Gera and Albrechtsen. But the club bought off the contracts of Roman Bednar and Luke Moore, and also Ishmael Miller earlier in the season. The striking power is not lacking, and most importantly they kept most of the midfield area together, as Greening, Teixeira and Koren were creating a lot of chances for the strikers. The area that needed strengthening was defense, and Meite, Cech and Zuiverloon all joined the club. And by bringing Scott Carson, Mowbray ensured that all areas of the team are well covered. Koren will probably miss the game through injury, while Clement should be ready to play.
Betting verdict
Arsenal team has problems with injured players, but they have good enough squad to cope. The team is famous for its attacking football, especially at home, and they will attack the visitors from the start in this game as well. West Bromwich is much stronger than last year, and their manager is one of the few who won’t order his team to defend when playing Arsenal. Mowbray stated that he wants his team to play attacking football even in the Premier league, and because of that we recommend betting on over 2.5 goals.
