This week England - Premier League matches
|
West Ham want to start new season with a win despite they miss a lot of players through injuries. The team was not very consistent last season, but mainly because they had the same problems, with a lot of injured players. West Ham was not busy in the transfer window. Wigan, on the other side was struggling last season, and manager Steve Bruce doesn’t want to repeat that. Four players have arrived, and they fitted very well, and this might be the season free of worries for the Latics.
Hammers trying to cope with injuries
Boss Alan Curbishley has been cursing his luck, as he didn’t have nearly the full squad to choose from last season. The squad was plagued with injuries, and the trend seems to continue. George McCarney, Kyron Dyer and Craig Bellamy are all injured while Anton Ferdinand is struggling to reach full fitness. The team is practically the same as last season, though they signed Behrami from Lazio, and keeper Lastuvka on loan. Zamora and Pantsil were sold to Fulham. Craig Bellamy started playing really well in pre season, and his injury is a big blow for the team. Despite the injuries, the Hammers have a big squad, and they will be able to compensate for injured players.
Wigan looking to progress
Since returning to the top division, Wigan has been fighting to avoid relegation, but produced some good performances and managed to stay in the Premier League. After buying four very good players, the team looks really good at the moment. Very talented Lee Cattermole came from Middlesbrough and already showed a lot of promise. Daniel De Ridder and Olivier Kapo arrived from Birmingham, and they have improved the flanks. Egyptian forward Amr Zaki is set to become the fans favourite judging by the pre season games. And when Jason Koumas recovers, Bruce will not have to worry about the results. Besides Koumas, Edman and Scharner will miss the game, while Heskey and Kirkland should be fit to play.
Betting verdict
West Ham has a good team, but also a lot of injured players. Curbishley needs to find good replacements for Bellamy and McCartney, which will not be easy. They need a good start of the season, and a win in this game would be perfect. Wigan is stronger than last season, and they should be out of the relegation battle this year. Koumas and Scharner are injured and they will be hard to replace. We think the teams will cancel each other out and recommend betting on draw.
