This week England - Premier League matches
|
Everton faces Blackburn in a bid to repeat the last season when they finished fifth in the overall standings. Manager David Moyes was trying to bring some new players in, but could not succeed, and the team is the same from last season, apart from the departure of Andy Johnson. However, they are missing two key players in the likes of Cahill and Pienaar. Blackburn is also weaker than the last season, as manager Hughes and key player David Bentley both left the club. After very good last season, they will have some problems this term.
Cahill is still injured
Everton was a pleasant surprise last year when they played some good football and finished just outside the big four. David Moyes continued to inspire the players to great performances, and even set his sights on top four finish this season. He did count on some new players to help him, but despite all the attempts, could not sign a single new player. And with great Tim Cahill still injured, he will face some problems at the start of the season. With Hibbert and Van Der Meyde both injured, recent injury to Steven Pienaar will severely limit the options for Moyes, and unless he signs some new players, this season could turn into disappointment. After a lot of speculations, Andy Johnson joined Fulham, and mad the situation in the club even worse.
Hughes and Bentley left
Blackburn was flying high last season, and they have to thank Hughes and Bentley for the success. The manager was very important link in the team, while Bentley was the provider of many chances for the strikers. After both influential figures had left, a big gap was left to fill. Inexperienced, but promising Paul Ince took over as manager, and the fans hope he can prove at least as good as Hughes. The club failed to recruit replacement for Bentley, and probably Emerton will move from defense to take his place. Paul Robinson was brought to replace Brad Friedel who left for Aston Villa. Ince was able to keep the striking pair of Santa Cruz and McCarthy, and that can prove to be very useful. Santa Cruz and Pedersen are doubtful for this game, but will probably be ready.
Betting verdict
Everton kept the team from last season, except for Johnson. Moyes couldn’t bring new players, but he will continue to look for them. Injuries to Cahill and Pienaar are a big blow for the team. Blackburn has to deal without Hughes and Bentley, and Ince will be very motivated to prove himself in the Premier League. Santa Cruz should be ready for the game, and together with McCarty he will create problems for the opposition. If Cahill and Pienaar were ready, we would expect a home win, but at this moment we would recommend betting on draw.
