Ascoli roared through Brescia but besides momentary satisfaction bianconeri had no use of this convincing triumph. It was third Marchesi win in succession but it is all the same whether they will end up eighth or 15th, Ascoli will play in Serie B next season. Perhaps the positive run in the last few rounds brings more stability for coach Iaconi who is still not sure to run the club next season. Now Gustineti’s side have 77 points, sharing second place with Lecce, but nothing depends on them anymore. They, of course, have lower score in head-to-head duels, so if Papadopulo’s side win the last three matches, AlbinoLeffe will have to go through play-offs.
Ascoli have gone last three matches without conceding
At the same time Ascolani scored seven goals. There were few shameful defeats by Treviso and Grosseto so president Benigni threatened to field the young players till the end. The squad answered with three successive wins and if the approach this match seriously they could extend the fantastic run. Ascoli wasted their chance for play-offs by drawing away.
