 It`s a game between two teams already assured their survival. Getafe did it in previous round managing a draw in Valladolid and Betis reached safety 2 weeks ago. Therefore, the game at «Coliseum Alfonso Perez» is of no significance to those two and will be only a matter of prestige.
End of best season ever
The season under Michael Laudrup`s lead was the most successful one in their history. Copa del Rey finals for 2nd consecutive season as well as great performances in the UEFA Cup, in which they almost made it to semi-finals, made Getafe squad loosen up a bit at the end, reaching safety just 2 weeks before end. Laudrup continued with success of Bernd Schuster, former coach of a modest team from the suburbs of Madrid. De la Red, Manu del Moral, Tena, Casquero, Contra have all become players much desired by the teams of far larger economic potentials. As always, everyone expects to see who will be the ones to remain on the team. Team`s policy is to affirm young players, sell those after a good season and than sign over some experienced internationals. A mixture of youth and experience always gave good results so far and there`s no reason why they shouldn`t keep up the practice. Coach Laudrup has also become a matter of bargaining. Betis, Sevilla, Valencia and few other Italian and English teams are all interested in his skills. Until those decisions are made, there`s one more game to go, against Betis and a win would be the perfect way to conclude a very good season.
A formality
A very odd season for Betis has finally reached its end. They reached survival, with 46 points and at 14th place, but the overall impression is they could have done much better. Their results were going up and down throughout the entire season. A series of great results was usually followed be series of bad ones. They were winning over great teams and defeated to weaker rivals. Their finish of championship was also interesting as well as great away performances. Betis were one of least predictable teams this year and it`s no wonder they ended up at low 14th place, despite their qualities. The game in the suburbs of Madrid is a pure formality and it`s farfetched expecting them to be motivated against playful home side team.
