 City derby of Sevilla always stirs passions, often the lowest ones, and many think of it as a synonym for riots, players` and presidents` confrontations. It all went much better last time those two played, probably due to tragic death of Antonio Puerta at the game against Getafe, which reminded many «extremists» among football fans that it is, after all, just a game and that human life is above everything else. This game is crucial for both teams` interests; it would mean survival for «Greens» and an attempt to make it to Champions League, for Sevilla.
A chance for pay-back and survival
This game is important for Betis for 2 reasons. First, it`s a chance to reach survival. Second, it`s a chance for them to win over arch city rivals, their great unfulfilled desire for quite some time. Betis drew last 2 games, against Almeria away and against Vallaloid at home. The latter was somewhat unexpected and confirmed Beatis` practice of playing much better away than at home. What matters for squad and coach Chaparro, is that Capi will be available after one game ban. Success of Betis` strikers much depends on his performance. From what we know, the best line-up is expected for the game against Sevilla. No players are injured, only few first-team players were spared from training, in order to be fully prepared for the game.
Betis were a regular «victim» of Sevilla last seasons
Sevilla were the better rival in games between those two, past few seasons. Last 9 seasons, this one, as well as the game from first championship-part included, Sevilla made notably better results. Sevilla won 6 and drew 7 of 15 games, Betis won just 2. Last «Greens» win was almost 2 years ago, during season of 2005/06. It all puts Sevilla as favorite, but we all know it might easily prove to be wrong. Betis played and won few great games this year, against teams at higher position than Sevilla. Only now do players and management of Sevilla realize just how many points they let go of easily, most of which at home. Just 2extra points, that they could have come away with from Murcia, would have put them in much better position than current. The way things are, Atletico`s win in Barcelona against Espanyol, in last round, made great Sevilla win in Santander seem insignificant. If the team from Madrid win on Sunday and do what everybody expect them to, Sevilla will lose every chance of making it to Europe`s most elite competition. Still, it seems like Sevilla deserved nothing better. They lost both games against Atletico, they remained off the team from Madrid throughout the entire championship and it would be quite «unfair» if they got ahead now. Sevilla will probably have to wait for next year to make up for everything they missed this season.
