Having lost to Reggina at Massimino Catania complicated their situation, so now they are only a point above relegation zone but they also have the most difficult schedule out of all relegation contenders. Sicilians travel to Torino where Juventus await and then they will host Roma in the last 90 minutes of the season. Roma might need points since they still haven't given up champion dreams. Before that, Romans will play Cup semi-final returning leg against Catania by the middle of the week. Catania came far but their journey will end here. They lost at Olimpico 1:0 so they must win if they wish to get to the finals. Roma are the favourites; in the last two years they have won this competition and coach Spaletti will insist on a serious approach.
Catania missed Spinesi against Reggina
On several occasions it was obvious that Spinesi’s absence was a huge handicap. Experienced attacker finished the season due to injury so the squad will be without him in this game too. Although Zenga insists on winning this duel, it is evident that he is thinking more about the last two championship rounds. On Sunday at Olimpico they will seek a chance to surprise Juventus who don’t need points but they won’t gamble away their reputation. The fact that their runners-up Empoli and Parma have difficult rivals favours Catania. If their runners up lose, a win over Roma in the last match of the season will rescue them. There are some calculations; it will be difficult but there is hope. In such situation home side aren't even thinking about the Cup.
still in the title race but with minimum chance
In spite of Inter’s defeat in Milan derby and the fact that his side reduced the gap to three points, Spalleti is pessimistic about the final outcome of the race. Actually, neroazzurri have the advantage in the head-to-head duel against the Romans. In other words this means that if Inter win one of the last two games (against Siena or in Parma) they will be the champions. Roma, on the other hand, are sure to get the second place after Juventus' defeat. Giallorossi wish to win the cup so it will be no wonder if Spaletti field the strongest line-up, Serie A doesn’t depend on them but in Coppa Italia they have the chance to win this trophy for the third time in a row.
Betting Verdict
Roma’s convincing victory on Sunday in Genoa can be misleading; the man of the game was Roman side keeper, Doni and the visitors used three out of four shots at the target to shake Doriani net. A win will mean a lot psychologically, but let us repeat again, it is too late for the title. Roma handled Catania easily in the first part of the season. They will certainly approach this match more seriously. Considering the motivation, Roma should win this game.
