Spain Cup: Getafe vs Valencia On Wednesday, somewhere around midnight, in case there is no extra time or penalties, first of two Spanish competitions will end. Copa Del Rey finals will take place at Vicente Calderon in Madrid at 22:00h. Two clubs that represent two sides of a coin called Primera this season meet. While Getafe became a hit of the Europe, great Valencia became the biggest disappointment of Primera. Still, in the games like this one, surprises often occur so the side with better results in Primera doesn't always win. The referee will be Undiano Mallenco.
This time trophy mustn’t slip away
Getafe are one of the youngest Spanish clubs. They were founded in 1983 and the success they achieved is huge. On Wednesday they will play their second finals in a row at the stadium only 15 km away from their Coliseum. They will feel at home at Calderon, since besides the support of their fans, Atletic and Real fans will also cheer for them. After misfortunate UEFA Cup elimination by Bayern in a very exhausting match, they feared of the outcome in the Primera game against Zaragoza. Clever tactics helped suburban guys remain unbeaten thus boosting their confidence before the game of the year. Zaragoza were not at all easy rivals considering that they came to Madrid to get three points and they have excellent players. In order to lift his players' spirit on Saturday, coach Laudrup said that he is completely sure that his players will win Copa Del Rey on Saturday and that this will be the crown to remember. Interesting fact is that even 11.3 million people in Spain watched UEFA Cup quarterfinal match on Thursday. This fact speaks best of the Getafe’s popularity which gained many fans all over Spain. As for the state of the squad before the final game, only Nigerian Uche won’t play while all other key players will be at disposal. So this means, Licht, Celestini, Contra, Casquero, De la Red and Tena in defense. Attack and the side positions will be in the hands of Gavilan, Signorini, Manu del Moral and Braulio.
The game that can save the season
What can we say about Valencia that again lost at home? Three successive defeats brought the team in a very difficult situation. With 39 points they are only five points ahead of relegation zone, and there are only six more games to go. If they fail in the next away game, they could fins themselves in a very difficult situation. It is almost incredible what is happening to this club! Besides weak results, there are organizational problems which point to a chaos inside Valencia squad. Amidst all of these problems they will have the chance to win Copa Del Rey on Wednesday which would guarantee them a place in UEFA Cup, which they won several seasons ago. Getafe are the favourites and certainly whole Spain, except Valencia fans, of course, will wish for blues to win. Getafe’s play gives us reason to believe in Madrid side victory. Unlike them Los Ches turned blind in front of opposite nets; in the last three games they scored only one goal!. This is a simply incredible fact if you have in mind the number of superb attackers in Valencia. In spite of the fact that the attack doesn't work, Nikola Zigic is still sitting on the bench without any signs that he could play on Wednesday. Obviously many players have dislike for the Dutchman, not to mention the fans. Valencia should field the strongest line-up at Vicente Calderon where Miguel, Albiol, Alexis or Caneira, Moretti should be in defense; Marchena and Baraja will probably be in the back line, while Joaquin and Vicente will be wingers. Attacking duo should be Morientes-Villa. Young Arizmendi will wait for his chance on the reserve bench while it is still not certain if Zigic will be in the line-up.
Betting Verdict
Getafe are playing in the finals for the second time in a row. Last year they lost to Sevilla so they hope that this year the cup will be theirs. The misfortunate defeat by Bayern and many consider UEFA cup elimination a token of success in the Cup finals. It is hard to expect Getafe to be left empty-handed in this competition too, if you have in mind that they play much better than Valencia. Los Ches are in a crisis but we shouldn’t forget that they have excellent players and two successive wins over Real Madrid and Barcelona only three weeks ago point to the fact that Valencia play great when the players are motivated. There will be plenty of motivation in the finals and the possibility of playing in Europe next season is a great challenge for their famous tradition. We shouldn’t forget that they are the experts for the cups and that they have already won several cups in the last decade. A very interesting and exciting game.
