Bayern suffered an unexpected defeat in Cottbus while the Wolves once again proved that they are rightfully considered the best team in the second part by winning at Weser. Semifinal draw paired up Bayern and their former coach Felix Magath who is now successfully in charge of Wolfsburg.
Bavarians safe on top thanks to Wolfsburg
Last weekend Bayern traveled to Cottbus where they deserved to lose 2:0. Actually this was Bayern’s second defeat in only three days, having in mind that they were defeated at home by Anderlecht 2:1.
Coach Hitzfeld said that these were cloudy days for his side and that the players were careless in Bundesliga matches. Precisely because of this seven-point lead over their runner-up has reduced on five so Bundesliga is again uncertain. On the other hand Bavarian side didn’t reach Cup semifinals easily and if they continue playing this way they will hardly see themselves in Berlin in the finals. Coach will leave out the stars Luka Toni and Bastian Schweinsteiger that haven’t showed one bit of their potential against Cottbus. Podolski will get the chance instead joining Klose and Hamit Altintop in the attack. Injured Dreher, Furnster and Wagner won't play.
Earned triumph at Weser
Wolfsburg are definitely the most successful Bundesliga side in the second part of the season. Actually, the Wolves have marked even six victories with one draw and one defeat in the last month and a half. Last weekend Wolfsburg marked a minimum but totally deserved victory against Werder in Bremen. The man of the game was the only scorer Grafite striking the ninth goal in the season.
Coach Magath is coming back to Allianz arena but this time on Wolves' side. He said that he has a lot of nice memories in Bayern but that he will approach this match professionally intending to mark as better result as possible. The only change in the team will be in the attack where Dejagah will replace Ljuboja. As till now, Grafite will pose the biggest threat for the opposite net, supported by captain Marcelinho from the midfield and excellent rooky Japanese international Hasebe. Injured Alex, Ozturk, Santana, Deumeland, Rama, Evaljuskin and Van Der Heyden won’t travel.
