Last season have been ruined by injuries
Shieffield Wednesday had too many injury problems last year. In the moment when they hit the best form and started to escape from the dangerous zone, The Owls have lost key forwards Akpo Sodje and Francis Jeffers and defenders Richard Wood and Frank Simek. With financial problems they always have at Hillsborough, manager Brian Laws had to find solution with what he had and it was not a miracle that they had lot of problems to survive. Still, The Owls did manage to win the points in the important moments and avoided relegation, earning another chance in the Championship.
Without too many changes
It looks like they can do much better then last year. The biggest advantage for them will be recovering of injured players. With them, Wednesday is different team. They lost only James O’Connor to Burnley, while Wallwork and O’Brian are also listed. On the other hand, they signed ex-Middlesborough player Tony McMahon who can prove to be a steal for this level.
In
Tony McMahon (Middlesborough)
Out
James O'Connor (Burnley), Ronnie Wallwork, Burton O'Brien, Lee Bullen (Falkirk)
Hard to predict their limits
It is hard to imagine that Sheffield Wed can do anything better, at least not until big takeover happens. Without money, bottom table of the Championship standings is their destiny. Still, with good form and with injured players back in the team and in the form, anything is possible. They also have Deon Barton, who has experience and quality. If Laws manage to find solution for defensive end, and with probably the best fans in the league, The Owls can survive. At least we believe in that.
