Surorise of the season

Last season Racing were a sensation of the Spanish Primera by taking high sixth place. Until the penultimate round they were in the race for fourth and the Champions League but they slowed down in the last two rounds and had to settle for UEFA Cup. Anyway, it is a huge success for the club from Santander. Before the last season started Racing were considered a relegation contender, but coach Marcelinho did a great job with his players and astounded Spanish football public.

A calm summer at Sardinero

There are many reasons why the season about to start will be uncertain for Racing. The club that always fought to survive in the elite, now have the chance to play in Europe and many will expect them to play similarly as last season. Aldo Duscher, one of the best players last season left the club to move to Sevilla. Ezequiel Garay stayed in Santander although there were speculations that he will move to Barcelona or Real Madrid. The club from the town on the Atlantic have never had a big budget although the biggest Spanish bank and one of the biggest European banks is named after this town and is officially situated precisely in Santander. Mainly unknown names arrived to the club like Vitola from Celta, Ze Antonio from Borussia M Gladbach, Portillo from Ferrol and Pereira from Villarreal.

New season is uncertain

It will be very interesting to see what new Racing can do in the new season. It will be very hard to repeat the results from last year since the pressure will be bigger and playing in Europe will definitely negatively affect the form of the players. The question is if Racing have enough reserves able to replace the starters successfully. We suppose that domestic championship will be the priority and European competition is not so important. Realistic outcome for Racing will be between 10th to 15th place.
