Reading season 2008/2009

After three years Kings in the Championship again

Reading failed to survive the exciting finish of the Premiership last season. Notorious ‘second season in Premiership' syndrome knock down this solid team without any big names, but with the unique team spirit and pretty stabile financial situation under the chairman, John Madejski. Despite the 8th place in the season 2006/2007, luck didn't smile on them in the new attempt to survive in the Premiership when, despite beating Derby 4:0 in the last round, they still got relegated.

No big names for now

Despite the rumors of manager, Steve Coppell, and few players that carried the entire play on their backs (Kevin Doyle, Steven Hunt, Leroy Lita) leaving, they are all still here while Glen Little is the only who left to Portsmouth. New arrivals mentioned are Nigerian, Seyi Olofinjana from Wolves (but he had chosen Premier League and went to Stoke City) and, still in the spotlights, Dutch midfielder from Swansea, Ferrie Bodde, but…Emerse Fae who failed to settle in England is coming back to France, that is, to Nice.

Serious promotion candidates

The Royals are said to be the serious Premier League candidates. Three years ago, in pretty much the same squad, they took a walk in the park through the Championship and they are once again here after two years in the elite. If the young capped, Lita, in front of whome is the season of total affirmation, starts scoring, the top scorer title might be his. Anyhow, transfer window is still open and Madejski is not without money. If Coppell throws the hook for some new signings, the promotion is the reality for the Blues despite the possible motivation problem for the best players.
