Can the Red Devils repeat the success from the last season
Winning two trophies in the past season is precisely what United fans expect from their club. Anything else would be a failure for the richest football club in the world. Although they won two important titles, we can’t say that United were dominant. They spent a long time in Premier League behind Arsenal’s back, only for the last round to see them defend from Stamford Bridge side's attacks. Champions League was a different story, but even besides the fact that they reached the title without a game lost, some weaknesses were obvious in certain duels. Cristiano Ronaldo’s fantastic season, supported by the best defense on the planet, was quite enough for United to reach new trophies. Last year’s expensive back-ups (Tevez, Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson) gave their contribution but they are yet expected to shine and account for the money invested. The past year will also be remembered by a great record of Stratford End's favourite, Ryan Giggs who will end his career by the end of the next season. The titles are at Old Trafford and Ferguson is ready for their defense in the next season.
Problems with the Portuguese
Only at first sight does United squad seem unchanged. The only change in the squad over the last season is departure of reserve centre back Pique to Barcelona and the return of Johnny Evans from loan in Sunderland. Still, United from May and today’s United are very much different. The main reason for that is Carlos Queiroz’s transfer from the post of Alex's assistant to the head of Portugal. Although, at first sight the departure of an assistant doesn’t seem as a big blow for the team, it is quite the opposite in United’s and Sir Alex’s case . Aside from leading trainings, Portuguese is considered to be responsible for the tactics United employ in all of the tough duels, and his knowledge of the language and relations with Portuguese-Brazilian colony in the club, first of all the first star of the club, Cristiano Ronaldo was extremely significant for the club. Alongside Queiroz’s departure, a great problem for the club is also the media tumult about Ronaldo’s transfer to Real saga. After the failure in EURO and an ankle surgery that will see him out of the pitch till October, Ronaldo will have big problems with the fans of the club whose support he apparently lost due to the obvious disloyalty to the club.
Tevez, Nani, Hargreaves and Anderson – season II
On the other hand, United fans have the reason to be optimistic. Queiroz’s departure is good news for many . Great number of fans can’t forgive him the defensive tactics in big matches, so now they hope to see United back to their old offensive tactics. Great advantage for the Devils is the fact that last year’s expensive back-ups adapted to the club and they are yet expected to show real performance. Nani must show if he is ready to replace Ryan Giggs, while Anderson, after having showed great potential in the season behind, will be under pressure of proving that he can replace Scholes. Devils hope that injuries will pass them by this season. Last year Manchester United have gone a long time without almost all of their starters. For a long time Ferguson couldn’t count on Scholes, Hargreaves and Fletcher, while Gary Neville missed the whole season. Saha was injured most of the time, while almost all the other players at a certain time in the season had injury problems. Troubles with injuries, first of all Neville’s and Saha’s practically limited the number of options for the attack and right wing, so Ferguson was often forced to improvise. In the forthcoming season, Ferguson certainly hopes to have more luck, though the start isn’t promising with Ronaldo. Hargreaves and Saha injured.

Another title
It is not the first time for Ferguson to be faced with the problems about the first star of the team. He has so far, managed to end these situations on the winning side so there should be no doubts that it will be the case again. United‘s biggest advantage in the season to come is the fact that the team has been playing with the same line-up one more year, while the key players are of the best age when there is most space for progress. Even besides the weak start, when they fell on 17th after three rounds, United managed to get the title, so we shouldn’t doubt that they can repeat the success. Think about betting on Wayne Rooney’s excellent season. For the first time Englishman had a free summer; he could rest peacefully and prepare for the next season when he has to prove why United paid 28 million pounds. If the injuries pass him by, this Liverpool lad could repeat Ronaldo’s season.
