Always on top, never in play-off
With solid squad over the last few years and always close to the top, Ipswich just can’t make it to the play-off. This happened in the last season as well when Tractor boys were marked as ‘home’ team, kept winning at Portman Road and losing away (only one win in 23 away fixtures). Still, the club is financially stabile with good organization, so the ambitions are nothing less than Premier League.
Time for changes
Successful young manager, Jim Magliton, did a hell of a job with transfers boosting up all lines. Keeper Richard Wright (West Ham), defender and new skipper Gareth McAuly (Leicester), excellent young striker Kevin Lisbie (Colchester) and the experienced Ivan Campo (Bolton) all arrived. Top scorer, Jon Walters is on his way to Stoke, while the kwy players like Owen Garvan (known as the Steven Gerrard from the second league) and Spanish striker Pablo Counago have both signed new contracts.
In
Pim Balkestein (Heerenveen), Gareth McAuley (Leicester City), Richard Wright (West Ham), Kevin Lisbie (Colhester), Ivan Campo (Bolton), probably Ben Thatcher (Charlton)
Out
Gavin Williams (Bristol City), Sylvain Legwinski, Fabian Wilnis, Luis Castro Sito
Play-off as a reality
There is an ambitious season in front of Tractor boys and it appears they are stronger than in the last couple of years. Maybe the experience is that this team had lacked, but now, with the club organization worthy of the Premier League slot, we could expect former UEFA Cup champions to reach the play-off and maybe even the elite. All they need to do is to improve away play.
