Just step from UEFA Cup semis
One of the most pleasant surprises of the last season was this team from the suburbs of Madrid. Danish coach Michael Laudrup managed to create a very compact squad that played attractive football during the whole season but their results were a bit inconsistent. They fought to survive although they recorded victories in some duels against strongest rivals. And there is also the story of their fantastic play in UEFA Cup where everyone already saw them in the finals after two excellent games against Bayern. Luck turned its back on them and in the end Bavarians were once again Fortuna's favourites
Many new names at the Coliseum
Even six new players came at Alfonso Perez stadium during the summer transfer window. Some of them are players with a lot of potential that were noted in the Spanish second league last year like Adrian Gonzales from Nastic, Tarragona. The namesake of the famous director Polanski came from Borussia M Gladbach only his first name is Eugen. Joffre Guerron came from LDU Quito, the surprising South American champion, and the strongest back-up is the Turkish international form Besiktas Ibrahim Kas. Getafe finally bought the contract with Pablo Granero from real Madrid, who was one of the best players last season, and the rooky list is closed with Rafa who came from Valladolid. The attack is reinforced by signing Real's child, Soldado who played two excellent seasons in Osasuna. We should certainly mention that there was an unexpected change on the bench. New boss is former Zaragoza and Mallorca coach, Victor Munoz, once a famous player in Zaragoza, Barcelona and Sampdoria and a part of the Spanish national squad during the 80s. He replaced Michael Laudrup who made a fantastic impression on all the people in the club. Among others Pablo Hernandez and Gavilan left the team to move to Valencia, Javier De La Red moved about twenty miles north to Santiago Bernabeu and Braulio who was on loan in Atletico, is now signed by Zaragoza.

Team seems stronger that last year
The suburban team held on to Granero, Contra, Licht, Casquero, Kepa, Manu Del Moral and Uche , the base of the last season's team. With carefully picked and quality back-ups Getafe can chase European position this season. The only question is what kind of style new coach Munoz will insist on. He is not an advocate of extremely open play like his colleague Laudrup was, and Getafe's players are extremely offensively oriented. This can be the only dilemma when it comes to this team. Based on the manpower and the potential Getafe should be after a place in Europe this season.
